  1. Currently, I stream my movies from my PC (Windows 7) to my Samsung TV directly over my home network.

I would like to be able to stream to my kids' iPads the same way. What is the easiest way to do that?

Have you tried any htpc software like Kodi, Plex, Tversity, etc?

  3. I used to use Air Playit, but it stopped working and there are no more updates for it.

I'll try the one's you listed. Any one of them better than the other?

I use Plex to stream from my PC to my Roku and I got it some years ago when it was still free and I refuse to update it or pay for the paid version. To be honest with you, it's not problem free. It has for years had major problems with some file names so it's possible to have files that it's perfectly capable of streaming from a technical standpoint (the audio and video are supported) but it won't stream them at all. I'm not sure if anybody really knows exactly what things are and aren't problems in names. I've been too lazy to research it. If I have a file that Roku won't play, I just copy it to a USB flash drive and play it on my old Western Digital media player.

Based on cost alone, I'd look into Tversity over Plex if it was me. Baldrick's mention of Kodi is the first time I've ever heard of it, so I know nothing about it. You won't be able to get Plex for free any more so if you buy it and don't like it, you're out the money. Honestly given how long it's been out there in my opinion there's not any excuse for Plex to not be better than it is. It mostly works but not enough to justify paying what they want for it. The people behind it seem to be more and more concerned about getting money for it than ever getting around to fixing years old bugs.

So in Apple World you cannot simply use a file manager, browsing for files over LAN? Just wondering.

Using Android I use EX 3 File manager, you navigate and tap play , first time I choose default player if there is more players installed.

My mistake. I thought you actually wanted help and suggestions. You don't. Because if you did actually care about this, you'd have bothered to look at the links yourself. Good luck to you.
