Hi ALL
I have a very nice DVD Player the Toshiba DVD XE1 v1.3/T19T, that also has very old firmware - I am thinking of flashing it to the latest firmware, I live in the UK it is a region 2 DVD player
My questions are
Can I jump to the latest firmware ? or do I have to flash version by version to get to the latest one.
Also does this player have a region free flash ?
I am wondering if anybody has this DVD player and if so is it worth doing this or should I stay with what I have
A link to the firmware flashes would be useful I have downloaded what appears to be the correct latest update but it would be nice to compare so that I know I have the correct version
Thanks

if your dvd player is already region free, then DO NOT UPDATE!! if you do update then any region free hacks
may no longer work. so update at your own risk. if you do decide to update you will receive the most current version. -
OK I am at work at the moment so I will check when I get home ... if it is not region free and I update to the latest firmware, will the region free hack work across all updates ? or do I need to hunt for an updated version of region free ?
Just phoned my wife who is at home - she tried a region 1 DVD and it came back with a region error - so it is not yet hacked
My questions above is still relevant
I have from time to time firmware updated my DVD players but not every update brings stability as I have found to my cost
this is more about anybody here who has updated this particular model and comments about stability if anybody has anything to say
Correction my version is v1.3/T19TLast edited by corrie90; 17th Mar 2015 at 08:14.

if there is a hack to make your player region free usually the latest firmware update will render the hack useless.
there are currently no hacks listed for your player. the firmware has nothing to do with making your
dvd player region free. -

Can I jump to the latest update ? or do I have to update one step at a time ?
Ps We must have posted around the same time - I updated my reply to you then saw your postLast edited by corrie90; 17th Mar 2015 at 08:23.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Unless by updating the firmware, the player makes your morning coffee for you, there is no reason to update the firmware.

Agree with hech54. Unless there is some kind of problem that you know with absolute certainty is fixed in a firmware update and
1) You have decided you cannot live with the player exhibiting this problem as it currently does.
2) You are willing to risk doing the update with the knowledge that if you lose power or accidentally turn the power off while updating the firmware, the player will likely be bricked.
3) You understand that fixing the known problem may cause other brand new problems that currently don't exist.
4) You understand that the latest and greatest firmware update may actually take away functionality and make the player less consumer friendly (ie. support for Cinavia is added).
then don't do the update.
I know of no "link to firmware flashes".
Unless Toshiba is doing something very strange you should be able to just upgrade to a higher version of firmware from whatever you have without any intermediate steps. -
It is quite an old machine ( but has a very high customer rating ) .. an update should add 1080p/24Hz functionality
but to be honest it works fine viewing 1080p standard Hz
So I am staying put .. best to be safe than sorry
Thanks for the advice -
As far as I understand you got a Toshiba HD-XE1 HD-DVD player.
It can be easily made region free. First, you should install the v.2.5 "regionfree" firmware (HD-XE1 KTE Ver2.5 regionfree.iso file). Then you can install the latest v.4.0 firmware (AX4000N_S-USER-HDXE1_TE.iso file).
Updating the player to v.2.5 "regionfree" firmware will permanently make it region free. It WILL stay region free after you update from v.2.5 to v.4.0.
You will have to use a CD-R or CD-RW disc for the firmware update. Burn the file as an ISO image - don't just copy it.
To play the RCE protected R1 DVDs:
1. put a disc in and wait till you get the error
2. press eject on the remote
3. press Tsearch,1,3,9,1,Tsearch
4. press playLast edited by marlboro_man; 30th Mar 2015 at 20:21.

Hi marlboro_man
A week or so ago I really did quite a bit of research, I then purchased the 2 CD discs and finally bucked up the courage to do it and the flash worked mu player is now region free with v4.00 Firmware updated.
Thanks for the link - I actually found that link some time back but it was the version 4.0 firmware that I could not identify ( which you have kindly done for me ) .. easy when you know what you are looking for and I can see "AX4000N" was the important bit I missed out on
They are the same 2 files I paid for.
So if anybody has this model and needs to update ( well it worked for me ) that is as much as I can say.
