Logic

Depending on your needs, location and ability to carry out online payments. Iit shouldn't make much difference what brand, model, location it is or comes from... it's your choice.

5x samsung units = no issues
12x Lg units = 2 died slowly, 1 doa (dead on arrival) ... best all rounders
3x Liteon = 1 created discs which would cause systems with pioneer drives to lockup ... a known compatibility issue by pioneer forum.
3x pioneer = 1 extremely poor performer the other two eventually died after 2+ years
6x Optiarc = low quality, poor results ... just plain junk ... send to tip

Most have been retired with older working systems used as backup units

Next comes asking recommendations

Previous posts have been seen before on forums but by the time the user gets make and model recommendations there already out of production and next models being produced... so the question is only valid partially considering the consistency of particular models ... not manufacturers.

Have a look around locally ... then search the internet for the models your interested in and see if one unit or another has had a bad reveiws.

If you end up with a dud talk to the people where it came from about a replacement or refund ... and try again.
