I didn't realize until now that when you visit videolan.org, their default download for the VLC Player is 32-bit. Unless you really look for it, you won't find the 64-bit version. The thought occurs that this might be because the 64-bit version involves some compromises, or might not be as feature rich (yet). So I want to check before installing.
If you run Windows 8.1, would the recommendation be to uninstall the 32-bit version and then install from scratch the 64-bit version? Will you lose any features with the 64-bit version?
If I want to save all of my settings for toolbar, and system preferences, in the 32-bit version and then import those to the 64-bit version, is there a safe way to do that?

Yes, I have 64-bit processor and 64-bit OS is installed. I always install 64-bit versions.
On Videolan when I select "Download Windows" button it auto-selects the 32-bit version. I have no idea why. Maybe it is because I use 32-bit version of Google Chrome? I really had to hunt for the 64-bit Windows version and didn't realize for quite a while that such a version existed. -
Isn't the 64bit version still in "experimental" mode? Or have they removed that warning.

Because you chose the first link which will work for everyone.
Scroll down, at the bottom of the page is a section "Official Downloads of VLC..." and choose Windows. You are then taken to the Windows download page. Below the big orange download buttons (which are the 32bit version) is the link to the 64bit version.
Last I tested there wasn't any difference between the two. Like many apps, there is no difference/advantage to using the 64bit over the 32bit version.Google is your Friend -
Not entirely true. If, for example, you use Subtitle Edit, you will need 64-bit VLC if you want it to work with SE.
