    Hi,

I have a bunch of old Digital 8 tapes I need to transfer to a PC. The thing is both my Sony Digital 8 camcorders (DCR-TRV110E and DCR-TRV270E) are dying and they refuse to playback any content. Is there any cheap option for me to get this done without spending money on a new (or even used) full fledged Digital 8 camcorder? Shouldn't there be an affordable set top Digital 8 player by now?

I already moved from Digital 8 to full digital (memory card based) HD (Canon Legria HF R46) and all I need is to playback Digital 8 tapes... The last thing I need is to buy a 3rd Digital 8 camcorder, in 2015, just to handle a few transfers.

Those old tapes were recorded in PAL.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

No. They were and still are 10x the price of a D8 consumer camcorder.

As stated above, get a cheapo yet functioning D8 camcorder or spend HUGE money on a set-top one. Aside from paying someone to do a data transfer for you....those are your only options.

Thanks for the reply. Those are great but, of course, too expensive. It's really a shame no brand has put together a bare-bones D8 player yet. I guess my only option is to nail a 3rd camcorder, cheap, on eBay.

Yet? Don't hold your breath. The format is EOL and no one's going to invest in making new equipment.

Just wishful thinking. I could really use one.
