Ive recently got back into audio editing and would like to open FLAC files in cool edit, I have a very old version of it (1.2) but i did download something years ago that allowed me to open FLAC in cool edit successfully but i cant seem to do it now? any ideas?

Ive downloaded the plug in from this link and extracted the files to cool edit folder but every time i try to open a flac in Cool edit it says that it cannot find the file!

    http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/flac-filter-for-cool-edit-and-audition.140745/

ive got 100s of flacs on my pc to edit so it would take ages to convert them to WAV

any help from you experts would be appreciated!

That version of Cool Edit is just too old (1999) for this filter. I just tried that version myself, it fails for me too.

This flac filter seems to work with CE1.2.

Could you upload a sample flac that does not open somewhere (dropbox.com)?

CE became Adobe Audition at some point. I use the FLAC plugin from http://www.vuplayer.com/audition.php successfully with Audition CS2. (I do think that you should indeed go from CE to Audition, and there is a way to do so without shelling out a dime by starting to peruse http://www.forbes.com/sites/adriankingsleyhughes/2013/01/07/download-adobe-cs2-applica...ions-for-free/).
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Audacity is free and it can handle FLAC fine. I've got an old version of CoolEdit too and while I do like to use it for format conversions and a few other specialized functions, in my opinion actual editing is way easier in Audacity.
