Hi guys, new to the forum and i'm after some much needed pearls of wisdom. I've uploaded some mp4's from my Samsung galaxy s3 to my pc...great. I try to play them with WMP as default and I get sound but the picture is frozen on the first image. I've tried Downloading VLC player but I didn't get anywhere (maybe I went wrong somewhere as people swear by it). I've googled many versions of this question to no avail.
These videos im trying to view on my pc, for storage, are of my baby girl and I can't delete them from my phone until I know I can watch them from my pc and also make dvd's of them.
If anyone can give me an answer I'd b greatly appreciated, thank you
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

im using a desktop pc intel core i3-2100 cpu @3.10ghz, Windows7 and 4gb Ram.
I can still play these vids on my phones -
I've tried using VLC player again and once again I get sound but instead of a single frame I have a black screen which leaves a print of every window I open (e.g right click, then close and window is still onscreen). It also keeps saying that it has to change the colour scheme back to windows 7 basic...?
I've also tried using format factory to change these MP4's to MPEG's and AVI's but the outcome is the same.
I have iTunes and WMP, would these and/or any other programmes cause interferance to make this problem occur?
If anyone can figure this out I will regard them as a true genius thanx! -
Did you try Media Player Classic Home Cinema?
On computer installed some codec packs? If yes uninstall them and try again after computer restart -
How did you upload from you Galaxy S3 to your computer? I just copied and pasted from my Galaxy S3 to my computer with a USB cable and the video played fine in MPC-HC and Windows media player.

If you can't work it out maybe make a short video you can copy to your PC and upload here just to confirm there's nothing odd going on, but it should be just a matter of copying it from the S3 to the PC and opening the video with a media player.

Right, ive tried allsorts like updating my video card, defragmenting my Hard Drive and System but nothing. I have in the past made a DVD using vids from my phone using windows movie maker so I know my pc can play these dam videos but even that seems to have completely broken and re-downloading it doesn't work either.
I have however discovered that iTunes is the only program that does work but why the hell not any other program? I must be doing something absolutely stupid and surely its a simple...delete this or untick that setting or allow this to run. ARGH!
I have other issues like in my videos folder, when I update things , the icons of files change from movie stills to MPEG/AVI/MP4 logos and recently with VLC its traffic cones..why!
Maybe all this has been covered in other threads but ive no idea where to start looking, if anyone else has any ideas I'd appreciate it thanks -
The icons for your video files change because the default program for playback has changed. To fix this, just right click on a representative video file and select 'Properties' and then look at 'Opens with'. Change that to the opening program you desire and then the new default icon will show. The 'movie still' icons are probably generated by the OS using one of the installed codecs.

Maybe my pc has completely f'd up and needs a bullet and sledge hammer taken to it, cause recently I've tried iTunes to burn a cd but the option doesn't appear on the file tab which suggests (by iTunes help) that its an unrecognised format (or whatever excuse my pc comes up with), I've managed to get windows dvd maker to work from a previous project but the vids from my phones uploads are not showing for selection (the program has an option of 'show all file types' which does show the vids I want to burn but wont recognise them when selected) even though I have made a successful dvd from vids taken from the exact same phone only months ago. These are all in MP4 format and I don't understand why all of a sudden there is this unrecognisable element to my programs/pc from past and present uploads from my phone to pc. I'm not doing anything different from previous experience. I've tried WMP to burn a dvd and thought I had cracked it wen it got to 10% but then crashed and my blank dvd is now whizzing around in my drive unable to eject.
Why oh why can't my pc play these MP4's from my phone when it used to do so well?
Short of a factory reset...I haven't a clue unless someone out there can help
