Since I have seen that most problems are caused by the fact that most users doesn't really know how to set up codecs and input plugins correctly, I have created a setup that install everything related to VirtualDub automatically.

Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things) -
Looks good! I added a link to it from https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Virtualdub#download (other downloads) . Maybe I can make a own tool page for it later.
I recommend you to test it at virustotal just to be sure: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/edb3d0bc8a38da18c8803165831930588d4d46c6dadf6736d43...is/1425284377/ -
Thanks, I have submitted a report to DrWeb.

1-2 virus warnings is pretty common. Some antivirus programs are just crap.

I know, but I will try to get it to 0

They have fixed the problem with the detection: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/edb3d0bc8a38da18c8803165831930588d4d46c6dadf6736d43...d04c/analysis/

Thanks for the application. I encountered some problem when I tried to install the plug ins manually as the anti virus programme in my machine forcibly removed them. I came across this application which automatically installed all the plug ins so easily. Not interrupted by AV. I have opened various video files and all of them worked well. I have edited some files and saved them as avi with direct stream copy. I would like to ask the promoter to help install some external encoders too.
-
I haven't yet time to look but I will consider adding them.
But the problem is that external encoders require a lot of additional configuration though command line and I think that configuring it in a way that will work for all users would be complicate.
In the meantime there are Xvid VFW and x264vfw in the pack that works perfectly.Last edited by ale5000; 14th Mar 2015 at 18:10.

Currently the pack doesn't contain a DTS codec but I will add it in the future.

Thanks for your time. I use VirtualDub for framewise editing and it does nicely. I have lot of videos with dts audio. Hope to get DTS codec soon.

It could be very useful for beginners who don't want to track down everything they need to use Virtualdub but I will not install it into C:\Program Files. I might check it out and be able to add input if it was portable but with it not being a portable app, I'm afraid I won't be much help.
I've been using Virtualdub for 15 years and have everything where I want it. C:\Unzipped (where all my portable apps go)\Virtualdub \Virtualdub 32bit\ and C:\Unzipped\Virtualdub \Virtualdub 64bit and have all my encoders in C:\Tools. I'd be willing to go C:\Virtualdub-32bit and C:\Virtualdub-64bit with plugins (32 and 64), Excoders (for cli encoders like Rattriff suggested) and Vdprof folders.
I have backups of my Unzipped folder on all my drives and if I want to update something, all I have to do is copy files to a new folder. I'd hate to have to uninstall and re-install every time there was an update.
As for cli encoders, only a handful are really needed but Selur has 220 MB of cli encoders in his Hybrid program and I have about 450 MB of encoders and help files in my Tools folder. They don't need to be installed. Just placed in a folder where the vdprof file tells Virtualdub to find them. The only thing that needs to be installed are the ACM codecs and everyone is going to want you to install all the other codecs that they expect to be on their PC. -
My installer is made to be installed on one admin user and be used by multiple users in the pc.
You can choose the folder where install VirtualDub.
The codecs need to be installed otherwise they don't work.
The pack can be installed over itself unlimited times, there is no need to uninstall.
There will be version that need the old version to be uninstalled but it isn't always the case, usually it can be installed over itself.
Also the pack can reset easily all user settings of VirtualDub, Plugins, Codecs.
Very usefull when there are problems.
Settings are in files and in registry, it clean everywhere (only for things in the pack).
Currently it doesn't delete all user settings at uninstall but I will add an option to do it to leave the system as the pack was never installed.
Plus the pack can be installed and uninstalled in unattended mode with command-line and can be included in a Windows installation CD if someone want to install easily on multiple PC.
Edit: I might consider for the future to add an advanced option to install as portable but this obviously would be only for VirtualDub and plugins/filters and it will just extract files.Last edited by ale5000; 16th Mar 2015 at 08:50.

VirtualDub can capture video and audio streams from a webcam with Mic into a muxed AVI on the fly without re-encoding source streams. The source stream from webcam can be RGB24&PCM or MJPEG&PCM. I tried to capture near real time compressed to x264 stream into mkv, but only video was saved into it, and audio saved into avi, resulting in 2 separate files.
Can you suggest a commandline in x264vfw settings, or another approach with a different plugin or add-on, allowing to encode and save both above video and audio sources muxed real time into one x264&AAC mkv with VirtualDub AIO?
Some webcams can output H264&AAC stream encoded by webcam hardware. Can you suggest a way to save this stream muxed without re-encoding straight into one mkv or mp4 file with VirtualDub AIO? Thanks!Last edited by zamar27; 22nd Mar 2015 at 10:33.

Currently there is nothing in the pack regarding "External encoder" feature so only .avi output (there will be in the future).
But I'm not sure if x264 will be good for realtime.
I suggest to encode in realtime with Lagarith (currently not included but in the next version) that is lossless (so no loss in quality) and then you can re-encode later in the desidered format.
About webcams that can output H264&AAC I don't have them so I can't test and I don't know if VirtualDub support this "feature".Codec Toolbox RS (A tool to read/change merit of codecs and many other things) -
Thanks. Is there a plugin that would expose "External Encoder" option in VirtualDub Capture mode or add that codec list to internal system codecs selectable in Capture mode?
If encoding capture with Lagarith as you suggested, what package would you recommend for re-encoding to H264&AAC later?
