  1. Hi all,
I've got some d/l mpegs I'd like to resize but don't know how, if it is possible. Say it's 320 x 240 and I want to increase it to 640 x 480. Can this be done without loss of quality, like when you max the viewing window?
    Thans for any help.

  2. Can't be done outside of "Star Trek."

When you blow up video (by two times, as per your example), your computer can't magically fill in the pixels.

(Corollary to the above: unless the video is using some type of vector-based compression, which is a *long* ways off.)

Since it, with its little digital brain being limited to ones and zeros, can't really guess at how things should look, it'll just (gross oversimplification here) add in pixels that duplicate their neighbors.

As such, your video will look poopy blown up---take a 160x120 .avi and play it fullscreeen. Doesn't look good, does it?

Generally, you can resize up a *little* bit, and it won't be too noticable. But the doubling of size you mentioned will do bad things for the quality. A good phrase to remember for video encoding is "garbage in, garbage out."

In short, try to find bigger MPEGs---resizing *down* doesn't carry quite the same stigmas.

If there's any other way I can help, e-mail me.
