I have a WMV video that I have legally downloaded and am trying to convert it with Freemake to get rid of the vertical black bars. Typically, Freemake works amazingly well and I have converted hundreds of videos to get rid of the bars. With this particular video, after conversion the audio sync is off by about 10 seconds. The original plays fine. I have version 4.1.5.4 of Freemake. The video is converted to 1920 x 1080 with the Auto setting. The audio settings are:
Codec: WMA Pro
Channels: Original
Sample rate: Original (44 khz)
Bitrate: Auto (original: 64 kbps)
I just did a conversion to MP4 and the sync is just as bad. I am using WMP 11 and the pre-converted file is in sync. When I play the video with VLC after conversion the sync is still off. These are one-pass conversions, btw.
Many thanks!![]()

Hi Baldrick,
Thanks for the MediaInfo suggestion. I tried converting the file (and others) with Any Video Converter Free and, after experimenting with the settings, the audio is now sync'd with the video.
I will look into HandBrake and VidCoder in a bit (thank you for the suggestions). Is there a comparison "chart" or something similar (I have been using CNET's Download.com)?

Spoke too soon - while there is an improvement with the AVC Free conversion the sync is still noticeably off. I just checked the original file with MediaInfo and it says:
Overall bit rate: 5 194 Kbps
Maximum overall bit rate: 5 209
First audio stream: 256 Kpbs, 44.1 KHz, 16 Bits, 2 channels, WMA (Pro)
The video stream is VC-1 and audio is WMA. I just want to experiment with Freemake one more time. If I set the Sample rate to 48000 and the Bit rate to 191 would that be close to the original?
Edit:
Freemake just finished the conversion and it is the closest to the original that I have gotten so far. If I use HandBrake & VidCoder could I get an exact (or closer) match to the original file's audio? I suspect that part of the problem is due the original's source: VHS-NTSC.Last edited by elling; 2nd Mar 2015 at 19:10. Reason: Result info.
