Creative Live (creativelive.com) occasionally has 2-3 day classes on video editing. They mostly focus on product productivity however there is a lot of small-talk that stretches it out too much in my opinion. But they are free when viewed live.
More focused classes are for instance the Lynda series but these do cost money.Last edited by newpball; 1st Mar 2015 at 12:06.

Search youtube for tutorials on your editing s/w. Free and lots to choose from, however you'll never learn anything until you put your nose to the grind stone and experiment.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Another good book is the Filmmakers Handbook. And it's cheap. Doesn't get into editing that deep, but teaches you how to make the shots.
Yeah, it does boil down to putting your nose to the grindstone, and figuring out, experimenting, being curious how they did it, etc. It takes about a year of futzing around until the lightbulb in your brain comes on.
Modern video editing is WAY more advanced than the old days, but the basic principles are still the same. Alfred Hitch**** was one of the early pioneers, and you can still learn a lot from his work. That's probably the easiest way to get started, to look at the older masters.
(Hahaha, the auto profanity filter did that to Hitch****. I should have used "Hitchkock", but then you guys think I can't spell)Last edited by budwzr; 1st Mar 2015 at 12:11.

Dunno about youBoob. Every "advanced" editing video I've watched were kids being rudimentary. They were almost painful.

Adobe has some very good tutorials. Obviously it is specific to their software, but the principles are the same.
