  1. the above is driving me crazy. I have an AVI file and use the resize filter in virtual dub and set it to 480X360 and precise bicubic.100 and then the frame and letterbox image as 480X480 as suggested by http://www.vcdhelp.com/avitovcdfoolproofusingcce/ and vdub instead blows the image up instead. I want to keep the widescreen aspect but resizing in that manner gives me a partial view of the file that is full screen. not to good. not sure what else to try here

  2. I'd suggest heading over to Donald Graft's VDub filters page and picking up the "smart resize" filter.

Heck, here's a link: Smart Resize Filter.

It has an integrated calculator so you can fit your picture *perfectly* on the screen, with or without letterboxing.

Here's another tip that I figured out through *much* trial and error frameserving VDub to CCE: when you use the resize filter, you've got to change the aspect ratio. F'rinstance, when I'm using the smart resizer, I tell it to alter the aspect ratio to 3/4 (that's right, NOT 4/3).

Then, when CCE does its "DAR 4/3" thing, the video turns out looking perfect on my screen---for some reason it just doesn't work when I don't adjust the aspect ratio in VDub and leave it 1/1 in CCE...

Hope it helps---Don's page has lots and LOTS of great filters for VDub, including smoothing filters that work *magic* for cleaning up DIVX sources (if you don't mind spending 12 hours or so on a multipass encode).

Hope this helps---if you need anything else, e-mail me at revjake@stouthouse.org.

  3. thanks my man. all the vcdhelp and doom9 and divx-digest guides don't seem to cover my problem. and no, I don't mind a little 12 hour encoding, I have been trying the same file for a week now with no success at all. except I was feeling a lot dumber then before.

again, thanks for the help and links, never even heard of either. :D

just give me the address where I can send money (jk)
thanks for real though, you don't know how much time I have spent trying to get this resize thing working right, well from your post you might have an idea.
