  1. Ok so I seem to have an issue with a .mpg file. I recorded one of our home movies from VHS to the PC with an analog capture device and at the end I recorded over an hour of just blank tape. I am trying to cut it out and convert the file to .mp4 but whenever I do so it seems to make the audio portion shorter than the video file. What I mean by that is you hear all the audio before the video portion is done playing. I cannot figure out why it is doing this and I have tried various methods of resolving this but nothing seems to work. Is there a program meant specifically to cut .mpg files and convert them to .mp4???

I have tried the following programs:
AVI Demux but an error occurs when converting
Demuxing the audio and video using YAMB but an error occurs
Demuxing the audio and video using MyMP4boxGUI but an error occurs
    Any Video Converter
    Wavepad Sound Editor
    Audacity
    MeGUI but an error occurs

Also here is the current video files mediainfo:

    That's beyond inadequate.

You can use several programs but I would suggest either Womble (can export as MP4 if you wish) http://www.womble.com/ or VideoRedo. Both programs are payware but well worth it. You could try MPEGStreamclip which is free and I hesitate to mention the free program ProjectX my favourite for editing and demuxing mpeg files but the interface can be a bit daunting when you first use it. Womble has a nice interface and timeline with preview monitor and a few built in fx. You can either demux or cut the mpeg file directly and as long as you make a project file you can use this to import your work into Womble's MP4 exporter.

  4. What are the specific error message ?

Likely there are problems with your recording if all those programs "complain" or exhibit problems

Can you play the file and seek throughout the file in a media player?

Videoredo has a quickstream fix you can try

  5. Yeah I can play the file perfectly fine in VLC media player. In AVI Demux if I try to convert the file it says: "Too Short" "The video has been saved but seems to be incomplete". If I try to extract the streams in YAMB it does nothing. If I try to extract the streams in MyMP4BoxGUI it says: "Unable to set priority: Cannot process request because the process (6356) had exited."

Also the bitrate is very adequate. It is an old VHS tape and that is the average bitrate it captured at... So it isn't I set a too low bitrate that is the best bitrate for my file. Sure I could set like a bitrate of 2000 but it won't change the quality.

    I totally disagree.

    Capturing 720 x 480 at 510 Kbps is a complete joke!

  7. What you have to understand is 510 Kbps is the average bitrate... It isn't constantly at 510 Kbps... I have a max bitrate of 4000 Kbps... Anyways... I am currently trying out VideoRedo's "quickstream fix". Hopefully it'll help. I'll post back later if I get it all figured out. Thank you guys for all the help.

It seems you may not realize what the word "average" really means.
