First:
In my experience, Cyberlink PowerDVD 14 is useless...
Just use K-Lite Codec Pack it uses MPC-HC
It's my favorite media player...
Second:
Don't download big-size movie (it needs more spec to run smoothly)
Third:
bframes=8 slow down the playback if the hardware spec's too low

I don't know why my questions are nonsense to you, I thought this forum was not only for ''pros'' but for newbies too, wanting to know the reasons for their issues and willing to learn so we can help others in the future, I think if you are not the kind of poster who analyse and try to find a way to help others according to their possibilities, then you should step aside just like you said you'll do and let others do it!

@ Detmek & hello_hello
As I said in a previous post I'm curious about the reason I've not been able to get H/W acceleration for my card as soon as I get it working at least with MPEG2 videos I'm decided to buy this card, I found a seller where I live and his offering a new one (in its box) for the same price Amazon sells it and if I still don't succeed in my crusade to have a decent 1080p playback in my old PC you can be sure that I'll never regret all the help and knoledge you both have provided to me. -
7100GS is and old card with VP1 hardware decoder. VP1 hardware decoder only does partial decoding. Since my first Nvidia card with hardware decoding capabilities was 9500GT with VP2 ACIS that does full H.264 decoding I am not sure what combination of drivers and decoder should work on 7100GS.
Few tips I found about DXVA decoding:
DXVA is quite susceptible, so if you want to use it you have to respect those rules:
* Windows XP, Vista and 7
* For Windows XP users, select Overlay Mixer, WMR7(9) or VMR7(9) Renderless
* For Vista users, select EVR or EVR Custom
* For DXVA and subtitles support select VMR7(9) Renderless or EVR Custom.
* Video decoder should be connected directly to the renderer. This means that no intermediate filters such as DirectVobSub or ffdshow can be inserted between decoder and video renderer.
* DXVA compliant x264 encoded files.
* INTEL G4500HD Support DXVA ONLY For Windows Vista and 7!
To add - they mead FFDShow RAW processor. You can use FFDShow DXVA decoder if it works.
So, MPC-HC with FFDShow DXVA or older version before it got LAVFilters, MPC-BE with internal filters and VMR9 for XP or EVR for Windows 8.1 is combination to try. If it doesn't work problem might be in partial H.264 support.
As I mentioned, I had Nvidia 9500GT (which is rebranded 8600GT) and I had DXVA working with EVR and MPC-HC and MPC-BE. Later I swithced to madVR. Before madVR got support for DXVA decoder I was using CUVID hardware decoder with LAV Video decoder but all of that was on Windows 7 and latter on Windows 8.1. I used it under Windows XP for a while but I cant remember if I needed EVR for DXVA or it worked with VMR9.
Since you also have Windows 8 you should not have problems runing DXVA2 decoding with Nvidia 610. With DXVA Native decoding your PC will upload compressed stream to GPU for decoding. All decoding will be done on GPU and its VRAM and picture will be sent directly to your monitor. That way you will not stress your CPU, memory bus and RAM.
Don't use DXVA Copy-back or CUVID because that metod upload video stream to GPU for decoding, sends uncompressed data to RAM and uploads same data to GPU again. -
Well enlighten me. Share your pseudo-expertise with the rest of us.
Is your PC connected to a 4k display? If not, how can you refer to 4k decoding as though it's relevant, then tell me I can't refer to 1080p decoding unless it's being displayed at 1080p?
It's a complete load of nonsense. I could move one of those videos over the the TV and have it display full screen if that'd somehow keep you happy. Do you think the OP's PC is connected to a 1080p TV? If so, what resolution monitor would he need to change down to in order to decode 1080p successfully? That's what you're implying isn't it? 720p? Maybe a little lower? Funny stuff. Idiotic, but funny.
Yeah, thanks to the you and the other one sticking your noses in and making claims with absolutely no basis other than the PC is old and therefore you've decided hardware decoding won't work.
I've told you several times, at one stage I had an AMD 3200 PC working with a video card capable of hardware decoding, and it was older than the OP's PC, yet there you are next to newpball, both of you bums up and heads in the sand.
Don't hurry back or anything. I'd hate to distract you from making comparison encodes supporting your previous claims, or from updating your list of excuses for not doing so. Maybe instead you could provide some screenshots showing us the difference in quality between hardware decoders because that one had a fairly high amusement level.Last edited by hello_hello; 15th Feb 2015 at 04:14. mpeg2 hardware decoding doesn't work for me using MPC-HC 1.6.1.4235. I just checked (I had a feeling it didn't). In fact when I disable the mpeg2 transform filter in MPC-HC and leave mpeg2 (DXVA) checked, MPC-HC bypasses the mpeg2 DXVA decoder and goes straight to ffdshow, so I did a little digging.
Don't tell the Two Stooges, but this post was written back in 2007 and lists the cards supporting hardware decoding at the time. Note the complete of any mention of a CPU requirement or mention of the fact that if your MB was manufactured in 2005 or 2006 you're out of luck.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=123537
DXVA Support:Modern video graphics card have the possibility to decode partially or completely a video using DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) and reduces CPU usage. MPC - HC has an embedded video decoder using this technology to decode H.264, MPEG2 & VC-1 video. Unfortunately this decoder supports for the moment only bitstream mode, which means that only most recent graphic cards are supported.
Your card isn't in the list that followed due to it's lack of bitstrem decoding. This post seems confirms the above. Once gain, don't tell The Two Ronnies, but it was written in 2008 and still doesn't mention hardware decoding not working if your MB is a couple of years old.
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=137974
Section 1: DXVA implementations
There are basically 2 kinds of DXVA:
1) Hardware assisted decoding, the videocard offloads some parts of the decoding process from the software decoder, this is very complex to code and you basically need help from videocard developers to be able to include this in your program.
2) Full bitstream decoding, the videocard does everything, the player only has to feed the video stream to the videocard, pretty simple and straightforward, you can assume that this is the way forward for all videocards and software-players
Section 2: Software players supporing DXVA
1) PowerDVD ultra, this program supports both types of DXVA and has support for all codecs (WMV9.MPEG2,VC1,H264)
2) WinDVD, this program supports both types of DXVA and has support for all codecs (WMV9.MPEG2,VC1,H264)
3) MPC-HC, this program supports only the 2nd type, full bitstream decoding, and does so for all codecs (WMV9.MPEG2,VC1,H264), however it decodes WMV9 externally with a combined 1+2 method, also this is the only program that is free and open-source.
That's from 2008 and possibly doesn't quite apply any more, especially now that MPC-HC uses LAV for decoding (and I don't know whether anything chnaged before then), but MPC-HC no longer supports DXVA and I think you said you don't have the option to use Nvidia Cuvid, so you're probably not going to get any hardware decoding working with that card unless you want to try a different player.
At least if a player only supports full bitstream decoding and not hardware assisted decoding it makes more sense to me now, especially it's free.Last edited by hello_hello; 14th Feb 2015 at 00:50.

The question is nonsense because you live in a place where the average monthly salary is $15 a month, you claim you earn $100 a month, state that you don't have an internet connection fast enough to stream 1080p, state that you're on a tight budget with kids to feed and at the same time you come here asking for help to watch 1080p pirated content that someone else gave you on your computer.
I would say you have much more pressing concerns in your life than whether or not you can watch some 1080p porn on your pc, here's a question no one has asked, does your monitor even support 1080p or is it limited to a lower resolution? I'm guessing if your pc is that old your monitor probably supports a lower resolution meaning this whole thread was a complete waste of server space.
On top of that I have already told you that I own a faster version of the card you're looking at and I don't believe it's a good idea for you to buy it yet you insist on buying it for twice what I paid for mine which happens to be half a month's salary to you.
You need to grow up guy, seriously and take a good long hard look at your life and ask yourself if a $50 video is really in your best interest at the moment.
And for the record, no I am not the type of man to sit and analyze some dude's computer issues to figure out why it's behaving a certain way when the major underlying issue is that the computer is way to old by pc standards, just like I'm not about to try and figure out why my neighbors check engine light is one when his car has 200k miles on it and burns a quart of oil every week.
You need to be able to see the forest from the trees, you're like a guy worried about a case of athletes foot but ignoring the knife sticking in his kidney.
And the sad thing is that we have posters here that are enabling you.
There, someone had to say it. -
If partial decoding was never implemented in MPC-HC or MPC-BE that it is not surprise it doesn't work.
Back then, the fastest H.264 decoder was CoreAVC. Divx H.264 decoder was also fast. I didn't bother to test if FFMPEG/LIBAV decoders got any optimizations for older computers because on my previous CPU (AMD Athlon X2 4000+@2.1GHz) and Nvidia 9500GT I were mostly using LAV Video decoder with Nvidia CUVID. Now, I don't have CoreAVC as it was not free but Divx H.264 decoder is still free, AFAIK.Last edited by Detmek; 14th Feb 2015 at 05:12.

And I see newpball popped back in for a "me too" post so the dynamic duo are still together. What a complete and utter load of crap. Total nonsense from start to finish. The guy wants to upgrade his computer. Never before have I read such seriously nutbag advice in a forum and I've read all kinds of nuttery. If the cost of an upgrade is equal to, or close to, the cost of replacing the entire computer, that's one thing, and it'd make sense to replace it instead, but when we're talking about buying a video card for an existing computer, well until now I'd never known such a simple upgrade is a bad idea.
You're ranting like a total nutter about someone's income because he wants to upgrade his video card, when anybody with an IQ slightly higher than a goldfish would understand replacing the video card rather than the whole computer might be more practical if money is an issue. The only person in this thread who needs to grow up is you. Well.... and the other one..... but at least he's not managed to rant like a total nutjob yet.
Would that be except for a thread like this one where you've posted several times about someone's computer issues and even included a couple of posts dedicated to ranting about his income. I guess we should be grateful you decided to make an exception this time.
Yeah that makes sense....
There's no point watching 1080p unless you have a 1080p monitor? What a load of rubbish.Last edited by hello_hello; 14th Feb 2015 at 09:39.

Wow!!! And you claim I'm the "nutter". I have never seen anyone, ever that acted like they knew so much when they clearly don't understand basic computing, it's almost comical.
Serious question, are you trolling us right now? I hope so because if you're not, my Gandhi.
Here's a clue for you Jack, in order to watch 1080p content in 1080p you need the content and the viewing device, be it a 1080p TV or a 1080p monitor, or else the content gets scaled down to whatever the max resolution of your monitor is and that introduces scaling artifacts. Oh, I forgot you watch 4 1080p videos at the same time on your monitor no problem. LMAO!!!
And for the record, it's nonsensical to upgrade a computer that old and it's more nonsensical to worry about viewing 1080p stolen content when he can even make ends meet.
He needs to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask himself if this is really the best he can do with his life before he worries about watching 1080p movies. Scale them down to SD if he can't afford a new pc and is so intent on watching them.
As for you, well what can I say about you that you haven't already said about yourself way better than I could have.
What other pearls of wisdom do you have to share with us, there must be some nugget you're just dying to pass. -
Certainly. You should either look at some long term psychiatric help or if you're already there discuss having your medication adjusted.
You know when I really laughed? The first time you implied piracy. Nothing to do with the topic but it certainly showed how desperate you'd become to find an argument. "Scale them down to SD if he can't afford a new pc?" This from professor "don't re-encode your video"? Instead of upgrading the video card? Please allow me to add a forum acronym at this point in order to feel substantially superior because I'm entitled to a turn. LMAO!!!
Here's a clue for you. 1080p content doesn't stop being 1080p content just because you view it at a lower resolution. I guess that's why you felt the need to add a rant about income, at which point I'll confess I stopped laughing because you embarrassed yourself and the forum. And short of a reference to Hitler, accusing a poster who doesn't agree with you of trolling is the closest it gets to proof someone's lost an argument. That's forum posting 101.
I've provided links to threads back in the era when then OP's PC was fairly new showing the only requirement mentioned by the developers of MPC-HC was an appropriate video card, but no, let's ignore any facts and replace them with speculation about hard drive speed, ram speed and CPU architecture and come to the conclusion hardware decoding won't work because without any proof sophisticles the magnificent has decreed it so.
Personally I'd probably look for a second hand card to replace the old one if it's cheaper, but the card the OP buys is his choice. You probably should go back to admiring the significant quality increase you get from AQ mode 3 and try to refrain from posting here again without adult supervision.Last edited by hello_hello; 14th Feb 2015 at 21:04.

I guessed you'd be at the posting of silly pictures or silly emoticons stage. I'd not guessed that was the best you could manage. Oh well.....
-
I'm wondering if you can really enjoy watching a video, not a FHD one but any kind as I seriously start believing that you are deaf and blind, this post is full of reasons I won't repeat again about why I need to upgrade my PC, not a faulty PC but one that has worked flawlessly for 9 years now only by removing the dust inside from time to time, with the video card I'm going to buy my goal will be achieved, you can search all my post to see if I ever said I need right now a broadband internet connection to stream 1080p videos (and you're talking about nonsense here!!!!
), instead of helping me, you and your pal have both made a pact to try to make me feel miserable throwing in my face all kind of off topic ''reasons'' and using disgusting words such as ''screwed'' and ''bizarre'', the only ones that need to grow up here are you guys but in a mental institution, I firmly doubt you both have someone today to kiss you good night
'cause you are really wicked!!
Shame on you!!Last edited by cd2xtac; 15th Feb 2015 at 09:10.

Don't tell the nutters, but co-incidentally I came across this today. Hardware decoding requirements direct from the horse's mouth. If the link doesn't take you to the PDF you can click on "Product Overview".
Not that it's anything we didn't already know, but don't tell sophisticles the date at the bottom of the PDF is 2007, because I think that makes it old.

@ hello_hello & Detmek
This post @ AVS seems to confirm your suspicions and adds more light to this long thread that it's almost about to close, definitely I need a card that supports at least VP2, GT 610 will be just fine as it has VP5, unfortunately the seller I was told had sold out this card, I'll see other buying options and then post results! -
Yep, it looks we've finally got a rough understanding as to how it works.
My 8600GT is a Gen2 card so it only supports full decoding of h264, which explains why mpeg2 DXVA decoding doesn't work with the older version of MPC-HC. I meant to let you know I found this the other day and I'm guessing it still applies, so it explains why you don't have the option to use Nvidia Cuvid (VDPAU Feature Set A or better is required).
If it was me I'd probably go for a cheap card. If the PC's only going to be used for watching video (not gaming) I don't think there's any advantage to buying a more expensive card. I don't even know what models are current myself though, it's been so long since I've paid any attention to it.
Anyway, whatever you do, please post back to let us know how it goes.
