So you want to showcase a 4k video, great!

    Look at this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v68KQsWi3IE

Look at the levels? Yeah sure, why not pedestal it up a notch.

    Brilliance at work!

How hard is it to check your levels before you publish this?

Levels? Pedestal? Mmmm, gosh, what're they? My 'puter didn't come with a pedestal. Should I have one?

Yep, kinda typical of the visual illiteracy that marks the average consumer. How d'ya think BB keeps selling all those bad TV's and monitors?

I wonder if the maker knows that the online posts and player ain't 4K. Prob'ly doesn't.

  3. 2014 Australian Open?
I wonder if it's really 4K? I guess it's not impossible, but to me it seems unlikely any of it would have been shot with a 4K camera. Maybe I'm wrong....

Guess he needed an engineer to check his work.

Even though it hasn't been widely available on the consumer side, Sony(and others) have been pushing those cameras around for a couple of years now. I think it's credible.

This is one of those things that like 5 people here care about and get their panties in a wad over, and nobody else in the world, including me, cares even a little bit about.

It doesn't bother me at all. I'd watch it if I cared about the subject.

Corpo life realities (see Office Space) - no one give a shit - CAPEX and OPEX are more important than content quality - low crap quality - use to it and it will be only worse even for more and more N*k... people use smartphones to watch 4k content - why bother about quality ? - compressed black - good in bright light conditions...

Old folksy proverb: "Mediocrity is climbing molehills without sweating. When noticed, it never fails to throw a tantrum of entitlement."
Saw that in an old book of wisdom quotes somewhere, wrote it down a long time ago.

A psychology teacher once said in a class I took: Psychologically, mediocrity relieves us of the pressure to do anything well.

End rant. Nothing you can do about it, folks. It's always been with us and it's here to stay.

  9. Let's also not rule out the possibility, since this is an official video from Australian Open TV, this well may be a deliberate creative choice.

Other than laziness or ignorance, that's a plausible explanation.

Yep. Sorta lends credence to what was quoted earlier. Looks like you skipped post #8.

Yep, for sure or some retard left alone (to cut production cost) with Finalcut (oh man anyone today can create footage - people doing this on regular basis rating own poo on facebook).

This explain why i see so frequently even in German TV (explanation for non Central Europeans - for decades German TV was example of good practices and standards and as overall high technical quality) mixed/inverted field dominance - non video people doing video assembly not even aware that something like interlace exist - then you have on screen flickering all moving objects and as there is no automatic field dominance detector/corrector in chain then you have world seen by Huntington's disease sick person...

Let's top it, how about a 4K Star Wars 7 trailer?

However, stereo is not an option!
