Hi everyone.
This is my issue :
I'm capturing vhs tapes with my "Roxio Easy Vhs to Dvd" device on MAC. My footage looks fine after capturing it. When i watch it at 25 fps there's no issue at all, I don't have any "lines issue" like most of interlaced footage issue.
But this is my problem : when i watch it frame by frame and when I pause it on 1 frame that's what i got :
As you can see, when the subject is in movement, i kinda see 2 frames, blend into each other.
And the worst is when i pause it on a transition between 2 shots.
So... yeah, thats it. I don't know if it's a interlaced thing or another thing. Can someone help me out with that ?
Thanks a lot.

This is outcome of the deinterlace technique called Field blending.
Or you need to capture without deinterlacing and later perform deinterlacing and perhaps create 50 fps video or keep interlace intact. -
So, maybe I can fix that on the capture settings menu ?
I can't try it right now because i'm at work, but I don't think there's much settings to change on the Roxio software... -
I think it's a software issue. Roxio is a crappy one I guess.
What do you think of this one :

Before deciding you need another capture device or software you need to figure out whether the blend deinterlace is happening during capture or during playback. If it's the latter you just need to change the settings in the player.

I can't use Virtualdub because i'm on Mac.
I'm pretty sure the blend thing is happening during capture (i will check that tonight) and not during playback. -
Does it look normal when you burn it to DVD and play it on a TV? What software player are you using on your mac -- most do not do field by field playback?

Ahh OK, bad forum - there is special forum for Mac users.

Oh, my bad ! i didn't know there was a Mac forum !
So i did some test. The issue is the roxio software.
There's no settings at all ! When you use this software to capture a interlaced video signal, Roxio makes this frame blending thing and you can't do anything about it !
So I tried Video Glide, and it rocks ! So much settings, so much possibility ! When you capture with it, the software makes you an interlaced video file that looks like that (sorry for the watermark, i didn't buy it yet !)
And after, in Final Cut or Premiere I can completely remove one of the field so it looks much better :
So thanks a lot you guys to help me out with this frame blending thing, i didn't know about that. That's really sad that this Roxio which cost almost 80$ sucks that hard. I mean the software, there's nothing wrong with the hardware.
Thanks ! Problem solved. -
I may be wrong, but once again we have a case that looks curiously like a trojan spammer.!
OP: "Help, my stuff won't work with X."
VH: "Try A, B, or C."
OP: "Are you sure?"
VH: "Yes, A, B, or C. If you give us more info, it might also be D or E."
OP: "Oh, wait - I heard you can try Z and it should work."
VH: "It might, and you can always have that as an additional option, after trying A, B or C which should be best for you."
OP: "Well, how about that - Z worked perfectly for me! Check it out..."

Hey everyone !
Am I the trojan spammer ? Whoa that's funny, but no !
I understand why I should keep an interlaced file in 50 fps, but I don't really need it for this project. This a music video i'm trying to make, kinda lo-fi, with glitchs and everything. And I need perfect stills frame, not blurry and not interlaced.
So, thats why... -
