Hi, i've got a JVC NV-HS860 VHS player (with built in time-base corrector and DNR), and now a CYP CTP-100G External Time Base corrector in an attempt to smoothen out playback, reduce jitter etc. I'm looking to get a Panasonic DMR-ES10 as well to take advantage of it's anti-jitter capabilities but for now i've only got the first two. Anyway, on comparing raw footage (going direct from the S-VIDEO out VHS player with the built-in TBC enabled - but the DNR disabled as i'm wary of the image being smoothened too much - into the S-VIDEO in on my capture card (Hauppauge HVR-1300), with that of the same footage captured with the CYP TBC inserted in between the VHS player and the capture card, while the TBC has fixed some instances of stabilisation, it's affected the colour & sharpness, making it less sharp and also brightening the colour somewhat (See this link for samples).
I'm now uncertain of what to do. Which is the more 'accurate' of the two colours, the first one (Without the CYP TBC), or the second one (with the CYP TBC)? I'm leaning (on looking at it) towards the 1st one. The CYP TBC does have options to adjust the colour, sharpness etc, but there doesn't seem to be a "leave them all alone and just syncronise/stabalise the frames" option lol.
If I was to just use a Panasonic DMR, would that achieve the desired aim of leaving the colours & sharpness as they are but stabilising the picture? Or would using both the CYP TBC and the Panasonic DMR be better?
Update: It seems to be giving me a slightly different colour & sharpness each time (I guess because it's auto-detecting it on the fly). I can't turn that off though, I can adjust settings like colour, brightess, contrast, sharpness, but i've no way of remembering those settings each time i turn the unit on.

The first one seems more accurate from looking at it visually.
Still, Like i said, the colours are never exactly the same from each playback with the CYP TBC on, which is frustrating. Plus I can't pause the tape (i.e. on a black area) to get ensure the colours match, which is annoying (I mean I can pause it, but naturally it distorts the video so much). -

In my experience the Panasonic ES15 changes colors and levels by a tiny amount. Not nearly as much as your CYP TBC samples.

And it does a very good job of cleaning up horizontal time base jitter:

I think the ES10 is similar. -
If it's different each time you hit "reset" there's really no hope of any consistency.
