  1. Thanks to this wonderful site, I've nailed down making VCD's from my dusty old VHS tapes-now I'm turning my attention to DVD to VCD conversion.

I'm in the UK and have an NTSC DVD I'd like to save as a PAL VCD to view on my PAL only DVD (No hack avaialble, I'm afraid;-( ). My PC has a DVD drive, and I've read through the 'beginners guides' under DVD Rip.

My first problem comes in that I'm a bit tight on space. I have 20gb hard drive, partitioned into 3 6.5gb sections-two of these partitions are totally empty (I use them for all video/audio work)-Using Smart Ripper, I'm being told I need 8gb of space to do a full rip. Now, I'm not interested in converting any of the 'extras' or foreign languages or subtitles, so can I just rip the actual movie files to cut down the amount of space i need? If so, is there any way of identifying these?

I'll ask more as I go through the process, but one question here..My Cd Writer is capable of burning 99 minute discs, and my DVD player is ok with them ..I can succesfully burn 99 minute audio using the excellent Fuerio burning program, but this is only for music. I also have Nero (Mainly for data burning) but I can't seem to get a succesful VCD burn onto 99 minute discs using Nero..anyone else come across this

    Many thanks

  2. Regarding your first question, the space you will need depends on the movie, some movies are just 4gb+ and others can be twice as much, and of course you will need space for the MPG files and the temporary files as well.

As for your second question, if your CDRW supports 99min, then nearly all the burning programs that can do overburning (Nero / TSCV / VCDEasy...) should be able to accomplish this.

I suggest you check for latest versions of all the programs, make sure you have a good working ASPI Layer (4.6 NOT 4.7!) and you should have no problems.
