TV/SKY/Soundbar set up

Im having an issue with an audio delay on my humble setup, I have a SONY Bravia KDL42W829B and use a Yamaha basic soundbar for the audio output, with the TV audio speakers turned off. The TV is connected to the sound bar via an optical SPDIF connection. Video is fed to the TV from a SKY+HD box connected using an HDMI cable.
I also have a BD player and PS3 console connected to the TV using HDMI cables.
I connected the TV directly to the soundbar on the principle that everything that plays on the TV will be heard through the sound bar, However while some channels have little of no noticable audio delay, one or two channels, especially the ITV HD feed is visibly delayed.
I have the soundbar audio delay set at ZERO and the SKY Digital Audio Output Delay set to ZERO also. Have I got this connected in the best possible configuration.
If I connect the SKY box directly to the soundbar, I would loose the Optical link between the Soundbar and the TV and therefore loose the audio from the other inputs (BD/PS3 etc).

Has any one any advice?

No. You should connect the $ky Box to the soundbar via Optical since you want the most direct, and fastest, connection.

Even with the tv audio turned off, it is still processing that sound so could always be a delay

There are usually other connectors on the soundbar for additional inputs such as your BD/PS3

Of course, you might have misunderstood the purpose of the audio delay setting.

if there is a delay then you set it more than zero. Zero is only when there already exists no delay. And you would have to change it to match the varying output for the individual channels.
