  1. Hi all,

I have this MKV file that plays fine in WMP/VLC, but there is a problem with it nonetheless. Whenever loading the file in a multiplexer software like mkvmerge, AVI-mux or the likes, it either crashes the software or gives an error akin to this one:
    Code:
Error: matroska_reader: The CodecID is missing.
Stand-alone media players won't play the file and my Samsung TV will even 'crash' (get unresponsive, then turn itself off and on again) whenever it finds the file on the USB stick.

Any ideas on if this file is fixable, and if so how to do it?

  2. Have you tried remuxing using ffmpeg ?
    Code:
ffmpeg -i "path to input" -c copy "path to output"

  3. Thank man, that seems to have done the trick. Even though throughout the muxing process following error messages kept appearing:

Name:	ffmpeg.png
Views:	373
Size:	60.5 KB
ID:	29897

The file is now perfectly playable on external devices so that solves my problem. Thanks again for the useful tip!
