Hi guys
i am looking to buy this standalone video capture box, anyone have it?
http://mygica.com/html/VideoCapture/20140802/20.html
I want to record HD channels from my IPTV box with them. I already have hdmi splitter so acutally i just need a box for recording. The biggest thing i love on this box is the fact that its a standalone box, you dont need a pc or anything more to record something on tv, just plug in your external hdd and thats it. But i am afraid about the quality, is it good enough to record HD channels 100% clear without loosing on quality? Or there is something better to buy it?
Thanx for any advice![]()

I would not buy it. I downloaded the manual because there was virtually no technical information at the link, but there isn't much in the manual either.
Preserving as much quality as possible requires using a high bit rate. There is no mention of the maximum bit rate, but "2GB per file" is not encouraging. The manual says "720p, Max 1080p @ 30fps". There is no mention of any other resolutions. You would need to record web-based video at 720p. 1080p @ 30fps would discard half the frames from some channels.
From the manual:
Audio Encoder ADPCM, MPEG Audio, AAC-LC
Video Encoder 720p, Max 1920x1080p @ 30fps
H.264: AVI,MOV,MP4,MKV,TS,M2TS,M3TS,M4TS,M5TS,MTS,M4V,FLV
Video Recording Record to external devices (2GB per file) -
Hm, than its crap.
And what you will recommend to buy?
I need some standalone box which can record HD channels from my IPTV (without connecting to PC), but the most important is quality. I dont want crapy HD quality. -
Just so you know what to expect, there are presently no stand alone capture devices available for consumer use that permit recording 1080p60 as 1080p60. Those that can accept 1080p60 input will record it at 1080p30 by discarding half of the frames.
There are not many stand-alone capture devices to choose from. The AVerMedia C285 Game Capture HD II is the best one I have heard of far. According to the manual, its best bit rate setting for 720p is 20 Mbps and it has a single event timer to start/stop recording at a specified time. You can install an internal notebook hard drive, purchased separately
I recommend that you read the manual before buying: http://gamerzone.avermedia.com/support/download/game_capture_hd_2 -
thanx usualy_quiet!
and can you recommend something good which can record 1080p60? it doesnt need to be standalone capture device. -
See the thread that I just started on a Startech USB. There is a review of it if you google, and I believe the conclusion was that it does record 1080p/60. Its USB3.

I'm not sure what you mean by "good". If by good you mean easy for anyone to to set up and use, then there is nothing like that. All the capture devices that can capture 1080p60 as 1080p60 deliver uncompressed video to the PC, which means you need a powerful PC and/or a special hard drive configuration like multiple HDDs in a RAID array or an SSD. Here are the ones I have read about.

Forgot about the StarTech device:

Yesterday i bought MyGica HD Cap X and i am not really satisfied with the results.
jerky picture, strange colors, silent sound, etc.. if we are talking about price its ok (just 100 euros, thats cheap for standalone capture box) but if someone wants best picture quality - then its not ok
so, here it is my little sample/test
i have recorded one HD channel at the same time with My Gica HD Cap X and with my satelite receiver (original .ts stream), and here is what i got

That's an awfully big file. I'm content to take your word for it the product produces crappy results and isn't worth the trouble.

I did download the two files in the RAR. I agree that if this is representative of the best quality you are able to get from the device, it is crap. The weird colors you wrote about might be fixable if the device's firmware provides access to proc amp settings for brightness, contrast, etc. However, recording 1080i25 video as 1080p30 makes movement in the resulting mp4 video jerky rather than smooth. It was easy to see in the text crawl at the bottom of the screen. If there is no way to turn off the "Rec" indicator the MyGica adds to the video, that is unacceptable as well.
[Edit] I just noticed the frame rate in the MyGica mp4 file is variable. What is up with that?Last edited by usually_quiet; 30th Jan 2015 at 15:49.

"REC" indicator is from Nytrobox (satelite receiver), not from MyGica. In the same time i have recorded 2 files - one directly stream from my satelite receiver (Nytrobox) to show you the real quality of the channel, and one MyGica X capture to show the quality of capturing the same channel.. so you can better compare how good or bad the capture video if you have original .ts file, original satelite quality.
Tomorrow i will try to do the same test with some sport channel -
Yes not a very good device. I tried to convert AV signal to digital from my home records, the quality pretty bad, after 15 minutes of recording you may not properly move over the file: it is freeze the picture or create a random noise on the record. No point to buy.

Basic it the same Hauppauge HD-Rocket with the very same Hardware Encoder
Hmm why only the RAW capture card when there are Hardware H264/AVC Encoder out to from Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 or Live Gamer HD PCIe, Hauppauge HD-PVR 60 and Elgato Game Capture HD 60 or HD60 Pro PCIe which all do 1080p/60fps captureLast edited by SHS; 11th Dec 2016 at 12:25.

Hmm, faulting someone for not recommending a device which wasn't available at the time is more than just a little petty. The Hauppauge HD-PVR 60, Avermedia Live Gamer Portable 2 and Elgato HD60 Pro PCIe weren't available yet when this thread started in January 2015.
The Elgato Game Capture HD 60 was brand new and buggy. The Avermdia Live Gamer HD PCIe C985 frame decimates 1080p60 input to 1080p30.
My opinion of the Hauppauge HD-Rocket has always been that it is a poor choice for recording 1080i30 or 1080p60 video because it frame decimates both.Last edited by usually_quiet; 11th Dec 2016 at 14:05.
