  1. Dear all

Need some help with subtitles. And I hear the cry, awww, not again! Ihave read my how-to's and many messages on the subject of subtitles on here and on afterdawn with peoples problems etc. However, the answers given do not seem to solve the problems, at least not to what I am experiencing.

To help better understand my problem I have given a step by step as to what I have done with the versions of progs used. Incidentally, I am trying to rip subtitles for VCD use on a stand alone DVD player (those that support VCD that is!).

    1. Using VFAPI Converter, have got the puesdo avi file to use

    2. Opened up Virtualdub (version 1.4.9) and loaded the "filename_d2v-vfapi.avi" file.

    3. Making sure "Full processing mode" was selected under the video menu, conintued to the filter option again under the video menu.

    4. Chose vosub (v 2.12) filter and got the subtitles from the .ifo file. Everything smooth so far :0)

    5. Back to main screen of virtualdub.

    6. File menu - Start framserve - which then prompted as follows ::

    Frameserver setup
    Framserver name: Anon002b560a [filename_d2v-vfapi.avi]

    7. Clicked start and the "save in " prompt came up. Saved in the correct folder as filename.avi (with the .avi extension, not the .vdr extension, although I have tried both!)

    8. After clicking save, the usual box came up with the following:

    Framerserver mode - virtualdub
    Framserver name: filename_d2v-vfapi.avi
    Non A/V requests: 0
    Number of Frames served: 0
    Audio segments delivered: 0

    Frame clients installed: AVIFile only.

    9. Left this box open and continued to run TMPGEnc version beta 12a 0.11.20.98.

    10. Selected new project and continued to open the video source file (Which was the filename.avi saved when starting frameserve)

    Get the following error message:

The file "C:\folder\folder\filename.avi" cannot be opened or is unsupported.

So where am I going wrong here folks? Answers on a post card to syanidebomb@gorestore.fsnet.co.uk, Winner announced when the problem solved :0)

Seriously though, Any help would be very appreciated, any web links to help or web links to downloads etc...

    Fingers, arms and legs crossed.

  2. Well, i'm not familiar with this method for subtitles (although i'll try it out and see if I can make it work) but regarding your "unsupported" problem, I think you are just missing the TMPGEnc VFP plugin!

Try getting the latest TMPGEnc and the VFP Plugin for it, and then try opening that file, i'm 99% sure it will fix your problem.

Thank you for the detailed request. But I still have some questions.
Did you install the handler? Did you turn the proxy mode off? Did you register TMPG to VFAPI? Do you serving audio too? Which OS are you running?
btw, I suggest to update vobsub. VobSub 2.13 should fix all reported bugs since version 2.10. But this has nothing to do with your problem.

I've been told that the VFAPI plugin priority settings could be the problem. Although I have increased and decreased the priority of individual plugins, the problem remains.

Nothing I do or have done so far will enable TMPGEnc to recognise and load up the .avi file (as saved when starting frameserver on Virtualdub)

Any further suggestions would be a bonus

  6. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Thanks to Truman & Sefy on this one!

    Installed the Handler
    Turned on the Proxy
    + updated to vobsub 2.13

Everything works hunky dory now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. A little bit of searching around on here and doom9 found the answers!

    Cheers

  7. be aware that vdub aviproxy mode will interfere with the proper operation of vfapi in some circumstances. you do NOT need aviproxy mode for tmpgenc. turn off aviproxy(proxyoff.reg), rename the signpost file .vdr & disable the directshow compatibility reader in tmpenc, click option/environmental setting/vfapi
