Im trying to burn a bluray and whatever program I use to burn guves me error messages. This is my imgburn log. Nevermind the not enough space on disc cause when the disc is empty it says the exact same thing.

RITEK-BR3-000 Not good quality discs. Switch to Verbatim, FTI/Falcon or Panasonic.

You're trying to write at 6x over USB2. Drop write speed to 4x.

So youre saying they wont burn cause of the discs? Its all best buy had left Memorex 30 pack and plus they were 50 bucks. Is that the reason the burns don't work?

That's my best guess. Diagnosing problems from a distance is always difficult since you can't see the whole process. Are there any signs of flaws on the writing surface?

Ritek discs usually burn, but they have a reputation for losing data over time. A complete failure to burn is unusual, but wouldn't surprise me. Does the burner work for other types of discs? Try burning a DVD or CD if you have some, and test if the drive is working at all for those. A complete test would have to be with other types of Blu-ray however, since the drive uses a different laser for them.

The only thing you can try with these discs is to slow down the burn speed. When that fails, return the discs for your money back. Then order some Verbatim discs from Amazon, or some Panasonic discs from Adorama. FTI/Falcon discs can be found under the SmartBlu brand at MediaMegaMall. Remember to burn at 4x over USB2 as a precaution.

Ok so I did a process of elimination. The Memorex bd-r burned ok at 4x without verify checked but wouldn't play in my br player(ps3). My buffalo brxl-pc6u2 woudnt read a blank tdk dvd-r(my internal dvd drive has no problem). Then I put in a commercial dvd to see if it would read and no go. So I went out and got me some verbatim bd-r and when I tried using imgburn at 4x and verify checked I got the same error massage when using the Memorex bd-r. Heres a picture of it.

    Hi,
from your posted image i notice you have some form of cyberlink software running in the bottom right hand side of your screen at the same time you are running imgburn.
Its just a thought but if both programs are seeing the disk at the time of writing one could be interfering with the other.

No when I close the cyberlink app it still does the same thing. I have no idea how to solve this I think it's my burner I don't have a clue

If it won't read a commercial DVD, then you have some serious issues with the drive, or something in the system interfering with it. Trying to burn with it is just going to waste discs.

Next thing to do is plug it into a different computer and see if it will work properly there. Try reading commercially made Blu-ray and DVD's before burning anything. If the other computer doesn't have software for Blu-ray, a trial of PowerDVD should suffice.

I think its my burner. I uninstalled all the cyber link stuff and still a no go. I plugged into a different pc and it couldn't read a dvd? How can I make this drive work? I thought buffalo were relatively good burners.

Buffalo doesn't make their own optical drives. They just rebrand drives from the real manufacturers. I couldn't find the manufacturer of this slim drive, but considering that it was released about 4 years ago, and has XL media support, I'd say it is probably an LG, or less likely, a Pioneer. Buffalo used to rebadge Pioneer exclusively, but that changed some time back.

It seems to have a cable with two USB connectors. Are you using both? That is about the last thing I can think of to help, otherwise it seems like a defective drive if it won't work properly in two different computers.

This buffalo external optical writer, like the rest of its kind, has this basic nagging limitation: it is at the mercy of the power one can get from the USB ports it is plugged into. Not good at all. There are 4 wires in a USB cable: two for supplying power +5Vdc, and two for bidirectional data. I have discussed the same in separate posts, but basically, the power part of USB2 is capable of supplying 500mA of current maximum, and USB3 900mA. Those are just the specs. Whether or not they are implemented correctly or at all varies wildly with different laughtops and desktops. My experience has shown that on some, when maximum current is reached on a specific USB port, power to that is either clamped to the maximum or turned right off or a fuse blows & power dies (!), sometimes taking with it the other USB ports' power if connected to the same hub. Therefore there is no guarantee using the second USB connector on that writer is gonna let it perform as expected. Recording DVD and BD optical discs is a very critical operation! In that state, a writer can consume much more current compared to when it is just reading a disc. Moreover, the current requirements will flux up and down as recording proceeds. The two components in there that consume the most are the laser and motors, hard to see how they can work at all as expected on just the measly power off a USB port.
This is also the problem with cute little external 2.5" HDDs. In a specific western digital model, the internal HDD was rated for +5Vdc, 1.1A (!) How is this power going to be provided for reliably by a wretched USB2 port??
The solution is to use an external USB injector power supply. In most setups, this consists of a Y-cable USB, where one prong of the Y is connected to the computer USB port (only the data part is used) and the other to a USB power supply (actually just a high-powered +5Vdc supply with a USB port (only power pins used)).
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

Yes im using both. Ok so good news I got imgburn to do a successful burn. I picked the root folder of bdmv instead of opening up the folder and selecting bdmv and certificate folders. But it reads it as a data disc?

When I open the bdmv folder then select the bdmv and certificate folders it will successfully burn but my ps3 doesn't read it?

^^Yes, I'm aware of power draw of opticals through USB ports and the inherent problem with USB2. User reports indicate that using two ports tends to help however. USB3 is a better solution, though not applicable in this case. We recommend external optical drives with their own power supplies most of the time, or internal drives in a Vantec external enclosure with its own power supply. Not many people seem to heed this advice, as those few who are still using optical drives seem to be buying the slim drives, which are mostly crap.

Littlebase22 is having issues simply reading discs, so I doubt this is a power supply problem, and is more likely just a bad drive.

ImgBurn should recognize Blu-ray folders and burn with the settings necessary for Blu-ray format. You need to use UDF 2.5 with Blu-ray movies.

And yes, you select the folder which contains the bdmv and certificate folders.

It is set to udf 2.50. It did recognize it was a bd video. It said content type: bd video. I used tmpegenc authoring works for to author the blu ray that that make a difference? Heres pics of my folder structure inside the bdmv folder. Is it right?

Generally you have a folder named for the movie...lets call it My Movie. Inside the My Movie folder you see the BDMV folder and the Certificate folder. The Certificate folder generally doesn't reside in a folder named BDMV. This may not make a difference of any kind, but it is the only unusual thing I can see here.

The shot inside of your second BDMV folder looks normal.

Edit: Does this Blu-ray movie play correctly from the hard drive? Media Player Classic Home Cinema or VLC should be able to play it from there, albeit without menus. PowerDVD should be able to play it with menu support.

Ok so I renamed the first bdmv folder to the movie name. So when i open that up i get the bdmv and certificate folder. Should i delete the certificate folder. Inside it is a backup folder but that's empty and some folders in bdmv are empty. I don't want a data blu ray where i have to select the files to play. I want a standard blu ray where the menu pops up and plays. Im pretty sure my imgburn settings are all correct.

No, leave the Certificate folder in there. And leave the structure from Authoring Works alone. Even empty, its not going to hurt anything.

Ok so what folder should i select? The movie name folder that contains the bdmv and certificate folders?
Or open up the movie name folder and select the bdmv and certificate folders.

When i do option 1 it reads as a data disc. And when i do option 2 it doesn't read at all.

When you burn to a disc you should select the folder that has the name of the movie, and which contains the BDMV and Certificate folders. ImgBurn should be telling you that you have BD structure.

If you are having problems reading the disc in everything you try, then perhaps the output from Authoring Works is screwed up? Did you try playing the movie from the hard drive?

Then you've come full circle to poor burns again, in media that is known to be less than optimal and in the Verbatim, which is considerably better. Maybe your ps3 is just picky. Have you tried a burned disc in another stand-alone player?

And I take it, the burned Verbatim still doesn't play in this Buffalo drive?

Ok update. Just made a successful bdmv movie!!! Plays great in my ps3. What I did was I changed the name of the bdmv folder in documents to IYH_15 and then in that folder contains the bdmv and certificate folders. So i opened imgburn and selected the the IYH_15 folder and burned successful at 4x.

I think what happpend before when it was reading as a data disc was in imgburn i was selecting the bdmv and certificate folders. I put that disc in the buffalo drive and it read on my pc and what happened was the certificate folder was placed in the bdmv folder.

And i think i get the error message sometimes cause there bad discs in the spindle.

There may or may not be bad discs in the spindle. You will never know unless you get an external power supply, for one. It could be that in that specific recording session the writer asked for more power than the USB port could provide in that instant, and failing that just presented those error messages. In the next recording sessions, recording exactly the same files, you hit the sweet spot because all the stars were perfectly aligned in your setup and you get it right.
