    I just learned that it's possible to record video with the camcorder directly into an NLE program with a product from Blackmagic. Is this recommended, or should I continue recording to the memory card and then capturing to hard drive?

    Why not do both? Capture to the NLE directly when possible, use the card as a backup if necessary.

    Do you intend to be reliably tethered to your PC & NLE (and accompanying monitors, adapters, boxes, & HDDs & power supplies, etc.) during recording? If so, that is probably a good way to save time. If not, don't even think about it.
