So, I have a particular "Region 1" DVD with the help of AnyDVD.
Basically, I just copy the individual files off the disc, and place them into a folder so it's completely raw. (Just because it's cooler that way.)

As soon as I right click the folder I have put the DVD files into, I play them with VLC. It comes up with the disc menu, I press play and then it comes up with this error saying...

Name:	1.jpg
Views:	487
Size:	374.6 KB

I am located in Australia, so whether or not it's to do with the computer itself, region coding issues, or VLC not liking the media.. I'm not sure.
All of my other Region 1 DVD sets have worked fine and this particular issue hasn't occurred before.
By the way, I can go into the folders entitled "VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS, JACKET_P" and play the files from there perfectly fine..it's just when I play it with the menu's, things start to play up.

    Could someone please help? Thanks.

Tried different versions of vlc? Latest? Beta? Or older?

You can also try mpchc, use file->open directory, choose the video_ts folder and it should play the menus. If it also fails it might be something wrong with the ripped dvd.

Have you tried to play that particular disk in VLC direct from the disk ie without ripping it ?

Try using TDMore freedvdcopy, available on this site, which will give you an .iso copy, then run it through vlc and see if the problem persists.
