(I'm hoping this is the right sub-forum.)

I recently had a computer crash while recording using Loilo game recorder. Loilo is constantly writing to the file, so the footage up until the crash should still be there, but no program will open the file, presumably because the end of the file is messed up.

Does anyone know of a way to repair a file like that?

Have you tried VLC Player? It works fairly well with corrupted files.

And what format is the file in? MJpeg? Drop it into MediaInfo and post the text file of the 'tree' view here.

If it's a AVI type file, you might be able to view it with a hex editor, such as the one in VirtualDub.
If all you see is zeros, then likely there is no file to recover.

    And welcome to our forums.

The video is an AVI file. VLC can't seem to play it, and VirtualDub won't open it.

I'm not sure how to copy the text out of the tree view, but it looks like this:

    D:\Footage\VisualBoyAdvance_20150110_222434W.avi
    -General
    --Complete name: D:\Footage\VisualBoyAdvance_20150110_222434W.avi
    --File size: 4.26 GiB
