  1. Hi guys,
I've been a lurker for years, find your forum really helpful a lot of times. This time I didn't find the answer, so here I am.
Straight to the point: I'm having issues in joining AVI (WMV3 + MP3) files. When I play the joined movie it looks fine as long as it reaches the point when it switches to the second video, then the player shows either only I-Frame (MPC-HC) or a continously pixelated, corrupted image (VLC).
I've tried: VirtualDub (standard, MPEG2, Mod), Flip4Mac, AVIDemux, ASFBin, SolveigMM Video Splitter Business Ed.
Final Video gets always as above. Audio is absolutely fine.
What I found as of now is that the only difference between the two files lies in the VCodecPrivateData (as Solveig names it). Tried to change the character using a hex editor (the string was in the header of the file): result as above, it joined (no error) but playback sucks.

Both movies, which were trimmed in Solveig and are attached to this post (yeah they are identical, but comes from different files), start and end with and I frame. When using ASFBin I already tried the various advanced options like -brkvid, -rkf, etc. Maybe my case is this one they tell here?

Some ASF files seems to be of the same format, however in fact they are created using different encoding software. In such a case the video can go scrambled after crossing the junction.
So far AsfBin is unable to compare the type of compression so precisely to avoid joining such files together.
It looks like not possible to fix.
    (radioactivepages.com/asfbinbugs.aspx)

So, what I am looking for is something that either will do the clean join (seems unlikely though) or will let me to re-encode (in WMV, like what VideoReDo does for MPEG2/4) just the bits to make the join.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help

They are not the same bitrate so when they are joined WITHOUT re-encoding, one or the other is going to be pixelated depending on what rate your viewer chooses (Probably the Composite one one)

  3. Hi El Heggunte, do you know if there's some implementation of the code in the first link? I guess it is the problem here, but I haven't a clue on how to make it work.
    Thanks, bye.
