  1. Hi cats

please I ask if exist a program that transcode my .mxf files (xdcamhd422 input files) in .avi mjpeg

Possibly I like to use the mainconcept directshow mjpeg encoder that I have installed on my system (winodws 8.1 32 bit)

so I have jet the codec but I cannot find a program that use it

I know that I can use virtualdub, but it cannot use the mainconcept directshow codec. I wonder if exist a equivalent program as virtualdub that do the same thing of virtualdub but with the directshow codecs

    thanks

    Here we go again...

    MJPEG is a bad idea.
Outdated & superceded by MPEG2 (including the aforementioned XDCAM), AVC, HEVC, DI formats (ProRes, DNxHD, Cineform), lossless formats (HuffYUV, Lagarith, UTvideo, etc), even DV (when comparing compatibility).

Before you go any further down this path you really ought to explain your NEED.

  4. Cats use ONLY ffmpeg @ffmpeg.exe -threads %NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS%*1.5 -i %1 -c:v mjpeg -q:v 2 -dc 8 -c:a copy %1.avi

  5. thanks, the only problem is that or I don't know why ffmpeg produce a type of mjpeg files (planar? or progressive) that are not readable from my particular NLE and I don't know why

seems that mainconcept or some other type of codec (and directshow codec) do an mjpeg encoding PAFF that are pure interlaced and my NLE magically read well the mjpeg avi

virtualdub can do this encoding but it can only use VFW codecs, maybe for me is not a big problem but seems to me that other type of codec, for example the mainconcept mjpeg codec (the new I mean, not the old) are very quality and fast but I cannot find a program like virtualdub that can manage directshow codec

hoewver encoding of ffmpeg maybe it's the best quality

AFAIR MJPEG is always non interlace (there is no flag for interlace) but perhaps my memory fail.

For me ffmpeg works nicely with various sources however MJPEG as non standard codec (industry standard but not formal standard) may be incompatible (there are various "flavors" of MJPEG).
Advise to go for MPEG-2 I frame only (thus comparable to MJPEG) may be limited from resolution side (MJPEG works ok with UHD+ where MPEG-2 not) and from chroma sampling scheme part (4:2:0 and 4:2:2 only where MJPEG can be also 4:4:4).

I guess your memory fail. MJPEG is OFTEN interlaced. Yes, it has many non-compatible flavors.

Good luck with advising the OP of anything, pandy.

Don't be jealous Scott (or you trying to be a second usually not quite quiet) - I never said MJPEG is not for interlace i said it doesn't have flag or different DCT for interlace i.e. interlace is coded as PROGRESSIVE. Same luck to You in New Year Scott.

  11. ok and if I would like encode a .mxf file into mpeg2 with a directshow codec, or mp4 in AVC is there a program like virtualdub that can manage directshow filters for encoding?

I doubt that anything like VDub but with WDM exist, perhaps Graphedit can provide acceptable GUI (functionality) to WDM/DS codec but still it will be not even close to Virtualdub - maybe some Microsoft tool - not sure what is status for latest MS video tools for developers.
