When Virtualdub processes some video, the audio can be heard in the computer's speakers.
How can I mute Virtualdub specifically? Meaning not to hear any sound from Virtualdub, but still use the sound devices for other tasks, like just listening to music.
For example, I am using the Deshaker filter. While processing I can hear this terrible fragmented sound from Virtualdub. While waiting for it to finish, I cannot listen to music.
I do not mean I want to remove the sound from the video.

Yes if you have windows 7 or higher
open Windows volume mixer and mute Virtualdub -
Wouldn't disabling output preview also disable audio? I would think it would.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
Don't use Preview for the first pass of deshacker or other filters that require two passes. Use File -> Run Video Analysis Pass.

The correct answer is from roma_turok, thank you.
One should use the Windows audio mixer to mute sound from various apps. Don't forget to turn it back on after you finish your job
