Hey,
Im new to video creation and looking for something simple and easy to use. I'd like to be able to access my videos from any computer, as I do a lot of traveling, as well as access to some good graphics and formats. Does anyone have any suggestions of a platform I can try?

By platform I'm assuming you mean video format
If so, MP4 or my preference of MKV. The vast majority of players should be able to read MKV and a lot of standalone DVD/blu-ray players 'should' be able to auto-play MKV files as well. But some still insist on MP4 video formats. VidCoder can output MKV or MP4
To convert have a look at VidCoder (assuming your windows based) the defaults pretty much do it all for you, or you can set the output filesize and all your video will be converted to use as close as possible that filesize with all the hard work done by VidCoder
It uses Handbrake as the encoder, so is about as high a quality as you can get. There are a few tweaks that could squeeze more quality out of compressing it quite a bit, but these all add more time to the encode -
Im a little lost... Im not the best when it comes to technology, and you lost me back there.
What Im looking for is a online platform (or creation space) that is user friendly. I want to create vides and add graphics and stuff on the go to send to my friends and family back home. Do you have any suggestions? -
And I'm a bit lost too
Perhaps if you start by telling your assets (sources) for the videos you want to make. Is it some recordings made by smart phone/tablets? From DVDs? From the net?
And when you say on the go does that mean smart phone/tablet/laptop? Windows/Mac? And by adding graphics and stuff I take you mean some kind of editing?
To make it available to family and friends oon the net is probably the least of it. -
So, I have an older macbook pro, with a 500GB hard drive (im pretty sure its on its last legs, as its 7 years old, and doesnt have that much free space to store my video). Im not looking to buy fancy equipment, or invest a whole lot of money, but I'd like to create some fun, professional looking shows of myself during my travels; ie restaurant reviews, hostel reviews, top ten things to do around the city/ country of my choice. The more I can store online, the better.
So, I would shoot the content, but would have some help in creating a final product.... So, yeah, editing I guess.
Once again, something simple that doesn't need an instruction manual to learn how to use it, but something where I could play around with the footage. I tried youtube, but it's a little complicated, as is the mac editing system....
Thanks for your help! -
I'm a Windows user and not the rigth one to advice regarding Mac.
But I can tell what I do when sharing things with family and friends. Either upload to YouTube or to Microsoft OneDrive. The latter is 15 GB free "cloud" storage from where others may download what I uploaded. There are other similar free cloud storages like Google Drive .. -
Try iMovie for basic editing and titles. Do a test before you get on the road and see if your mac is powerful enough to handle your footage adequately. When you're finished editing, upload to youtube or vimeo to share.
That's about as simple as you're going to get. Please post back with any specific questions about issues you encounter while testing this process. -
Sorry, but you need to explain waht your looking for a bit more specific
Are you looking for somewhere to upload video of your travels, or something similiar. By playform, you need to tell us more so we can help you instead of confuse you (as we are at the moment) as we are all thinking different things
I thought you meant to be able to play video from anywhere while travelling, which is why I suggested a video format -
Ive been looking into some online video platforms... has anyone heard about this company ShowBox? They say they are in Beta and the platform is available for free.... Has anyone heard anything about them?

To EDIT with (remotely)? Or shared editing?
Or, to edit locally (on your Mac or a friend's) and upload & view remotely? If that's all, you can just as easily use MSOneDrive, iCloud, DropBox, etc for cloud storage, or use YouTube, Vimeo, etc for shared streamed viewing. ShowBox just seems like another DropBox+Streamed viewing app.

It does seem like it is a video creating platform from the cloud. But once again im a little technologically incompetent. Would it be an easy to use platform? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Put all this "tech" stuff aside for the moment and tell us what "have some help in creating a final product" means to you? What kind of roles are you expecting?
AFA what equipment you have:
#1 - Size matters, insofar as to how much video stuff (footage) you have and/or intend to arrive at in the end. It also matters WRT bitrate, which roughly corresponds to quality. Figure out the scope of a sample thing you want to do, and the visual quality & complexity (e.g. SD and "like this youtube video", or "HD and like a fancy music video"). Those will help determine your size needs.
#2 - The horsepower of your equipment determines the capabilities of the quality range you will be comfortable in working with. These aren't strict boundaries, but good rules of thumb. You can easily gauge what kind of video you should be able to do: look at your computer and compare what kind of videos could be done with a computer such as that when that computer first arrived on the market (its "era"). You would never expect a c.2001 XP PC to be able to smoothly do 1080p HD material, even if it is well-outfitted, but it would have no trouble with DV material.
Likely, even if you use a strictly cloud-based editing service, you will still need to have room on your HDD to stage them for uploading. You're going to need to be realistic - you will probably have to buy more HDD space (BIG, and FAST - and hopefully NOT just USB2 external).
Even if you consider yourself a tech incompetent, if you are serious in your desire to put out something good/interesting, then you need to be serious at learning "what makes good video" (and audio) and that includes a certain amount of tech knowledge (since video/audio is richly and deeply involved with tech).
If you look at some reviews of those cloud-based offerings, you will see that all of them have a certain amount of hidden "gotchas". But if your needs are low, it might be what you're looking for.

Inexperience and not wanting to invest in good tools is 100% incompatible with professional looking.
Based on your lack of experience I would recommend some classes. For instance creativelive.com has good classes on photography and infrequently there are classes on video art as well. Those are free when viewed live, they are a little 'stretched out' though, banter, jokes, presenter taking time, etc. But for a beginner that could actually be helpful, less intimidating. More compressed and to the point are the Lynda courses but you have to pay for those.
Bottom line is that if you want to produce professional looking videos you need training and good tools. You are trying to look for that free lunch and that simply does not exist.
