Hello.
I know this is a rather silly question but, I have 3 VHS tapes I would like to convert to digital. The problem is my barely-used VHS VCR has great picture quality but unfortunately mono, linear audio only. I also have an older VHS VCR which has worn heads and not-so-great video quality but it has Hi-Fi Stereo which works great. I only need to convert the 3 VHS tapes and after that I will have no use for the VCRs or the VHS format. So I'd rather not invest any more money in anything VHS. I am using a Sony Digital8 camcorder as the analog to digital (DV) converter.
So, my question is; if I digitize a VHS tape with the VCR that has great image quality but only mono audio, and then digitize it again using the VCR that has bad image quality but great stereo audio output, then in editing software, use the video track from the first capture with the audio track from the second capture, will the audio sync up perfectly throughout the entire video, assuming I match the first frame of each capture perfectly? Videotape playback speed should never fluctuate (like analog audio tape could) between different players and should always be exactly the same right?
Thanks and have a nice day![]()
