    How do Captchas work with this? It seems that one of these script handlers will turn the captcha image off.

    Answering Captchas are necessary for many places.

    And yes, I am getting a headache.

  2. I'm opening this thread again because I am bone-tired of doing these daily flash routines.

    The tip for using betanews as a clean install was good but that seems to be filled with rubbish now as well.

    Is there a clean link to install Flash 18.0.0.206 or whatever it is?
    I'm past interest in reading the betanews stories , I just want to get it over with.

    I had a bad connection earlier this year and the default adobe downloader would mess up. Then, I simply searched google for "flash full download" and picked one from a reputable site. I think it was cnet.

    Yes. You have link in post no. 6 but here it is again. Realy, its not that hard and it leads to Adobe site.

  5. Hi loninappleton ,

    ===
    Adobe Flash player

    for IE
    http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/18.0.0.209/install_flash_player_ax.exe

    for Non-IE(Firefox, Safari, Opera...)
    http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/18.0.0.209/install_flash_player.exe
    ===

    Do a copy of each file 'Copy... .exe' .
    Install from that file , otherwise the original file is suppressed !!!

    I do not use IE at all. Does that mean I should just do your second item? Please explain what 'original file suppressed' means. I'm not good at shorthand.

  7. Hi ,

    ===
    After having installed the file , 'Adobe' destroy the 'install... .exe' file .
    As your file has an other name , it doesn't destroy the installer .

    I don't use IE , but I always install the newest version of flash player .

    If you have some problem see the link above :
    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/369007-Install-Adobe-Flash-player-on-Windows-7?p=24...=1#post2400075
    ===

    I always try on finding the latest link , example :
    http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/xx.xx.xx.xx/install_flash_player.exe
    By this I have no issue wit MacAffee !!!

    Cheers .

  8. Crimeny.

    Ok. I'll try that.

    To review:

    Download installer.
    Run that downloaded .exe file for your new version of Adobe """".209 etc.

    Or

    rename the downloaded installer file to Installer file NEW.exe?

    It's not your fault that this is confusing.

    Then delete the installer file or all past installer files.

    Why does the installer file then _not_ have a unique name? It sounds like incompetence.

    I'll get on it anyway. I have a fresh backup in case of error. What really irks me is that there is no option by the user and this new version crap prevents use of facilities like you tube or news sites.

  9. Hi loninappleton ,

    I speak about a copy and not a rename !!!

    ===
    from :
    _ install_flash_player.exe
    _ install_flash_player_ax.exe

    Do a COPY of each file 'Copy... .exe' .
    ===
    ===
    Close all browsers
    ===
    ===
    Use 'EXPLORER' , do a search for 'Copy... .exe' , double-click to start the update .

    !!! NOTE : Install from that file , otherwise the original file is suppressed !!!
    ===

    > Then delete the installer file or all past installer files.
    You can delete all you want . In my case I keep all versions in case of turning back .

    > Why does the installer file then _not_ have a unique name? It sounds like incompetence.
    I have 2 files for each version of installer .

    > It sounds like incompetence.
    I don't understand (???) .

    Cheers .

  10. Not you of course.

    Why cannot the new Adobe installer have a new name from _them_?

    I did what I said I was going to do:

    Select your second item for Firefox and Opera (both I actively use.)

    Rename a copy of that new .exe file as " Install etc NEW.exe"

    Run that.

    Delete the original download.

    --

    What else is there to do? Why all this duplication of process?

    I can't imagine other people going through this. It's infuriating. (No offense intended.)

  11. Update: I have now done the IE one in your list in the same manner: copy to a different directory, rename and run.

    This IE one is called Ro or something rather than _ax so the two are different. These are things I'm not used to looking at and figuring out.

    When you say 'one writes over the other' how can this be checked as finally being finished?

    Since I use Revo Uninstaller to delete programs I do not see where the old style Add/Remove programs is in Win7.
    I'm newish to the Win7 and stated at the beginning.

    What should I see when it's done correctly?

    Thanks again but bewildered.

    Lon (not much calmer.)

    Yes I agree . If you follow Adobe's process you can install MacAffee !!!
    This is why it is a bit hard to get the direct link for DL .

    I can't answer your all asks .
    I don't work for Adobe , I am like you a single user .

    It's only simple if you sit still for all the rubbish.
    I won't start a harangue about google chrome and all the other 'new' things
    I have nothing to do with. I started the topic exactly because there's

    > No one installs Flash player like that!!!
    Me I follow this process ( 3 computers / with 2 bootables partitions in each one ) .
    I catch the executable files one time , copied as 'copy... .exe' and used for 5 times .

    > 44 postings ...
    The install is not clear to do . McAFFEE is at the end ( sh!t ) !!!

  18. If you download and install Flash player from page I linked (and that was linked in post #6) installer will not disappear after installation and it will not install McAfee or any other software.

    So, download, install, keep installer file. Three simple steps.

    If you download installer from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ it will offer you online installer that will install McAfee and it will disappear after installation. The link I posted leads to offline installer.

  21. Its the hardest thing to do - one has to read, think about what he/she red, understand that, make a choice and proceed. It is so much easier to just click, click click.... :P

  22. I think the belt and suspenders approach works best for this.

    Get the best clean download of the latest Adobe (which page I found again) here:

    http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Adobe-Flash-Player-for-Windows-IE/964714156/1

    Then do the rename and check that your Firefox or whatevs has it under plugins.

    Betanews has some other upgrades of freeware on the fileforum page as well such as Audacity.

  24. Technically, its not from 3rd-party site. Adobe does not allow other sites to host Flash player so every other legitimate site links to Adobe servers. When you click on download link on Betanews look where download file is hosted.

    But, as you pointed out, the safest way is to go directly to author's site and find what you need.

  25. What are you doing? What McAfee, what betanews? Go here - https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html , download latest version, or ESR, or for Mac, or for Linux, and install

  26. myr, as soon as you hit the download button on that site you get the offer to accept McAfee exactly as I have posted in post 49.

  29. If I remember during this thread, Betanews has a no frills version-- frills being things you don't want. That's why I started to use it. Apparently there's a misunderstanding of what a download _not_ from Adobe offers.

    Maybe someone can do a size comparison that is good at this sort of thing and prove it is different?

    It's a good discussion anyway.
