I currently have a basic Linksys N router located in my master bedroom closet. I noticed some areas of the house will get no reception particularly the bedroom downstairs away from the router. Assuming a basic N router and a basic AC router will the range be around the same or will the AC router have greater range? I am not sure if I should just get a range extender for my N router or buy a new AC router. I have 50 megabytes per second download speed and do basic surfing the web. I found these two from Costco but did not indicate anything on range. I am not sure why there is a 40 dollar difference between the Netgear and the TP Link.

The same. Your data throughput could be greater if your devices have a AC LAN adapter.

I greatly extended the range of my already pretty good Netgear WNDR3700v3 by adding an Amped SR10000 High-Power Wireless-N 600mW Smart Repeater, and I now get a good signal through brick and 3-foot fieldstone walls throughout the house and out onto the backyard terrace.
