    Good morning Videohelp community. Happy holidays and cheers You guys have been very helpful with other topics I've posted so thank you again! I used Handbrake to convert my Yankee .ts file into an mp4 that I can play on my AppleTV and also on a usb flash drive that I connected to my Blu-Ray player. I rendered a 16.84gb file. The original file is 24.3gb. I think I would like what most people would like which is to render a file with the best possible quality as small as possible. I would like to get the file down to 5gb or less if possible. I am using Handbrake but am not insistent on using it. I can tell you the settings I used to render:

    1920x1080
    Constant Quality=20
    Decomb=Default
    Adaptive B-Frames=Optimal
    Adaptive Direct Mode=Spatial
    Motion Est Method=Uneven Multi Hexagon
    Subpixel Moton Est= 8:RD Refine in I/P-frames
    Motion Est Range=32

    Audio:
    1.) AC3 Passthru
    2.) AAC 160 bitrate stereo

    Any suggestions would be great. Thanks again.

    With "Most people" ideas about quality differ widely. But in any case, "best possible quality" and "small as possible" are mutually exclusive. Choose one or the other. Quality depends on a suitable bitrate, not on file size. To go from 23GB to 5GB under most circumstances would suggest a very low quality re-encode. It depends on the condition of the original and how it's processed. There is no "best". Personally I'd go for the best quality bitrate and compromise with a reasonable file size. 23GB down to 5GB is not reasonable.

  3. You should use the AppleTV preset if you want it to actually play on the AppleTV

    It also depends on what generation of AppleTV you have; the early generations were handicapped and limited to 720p playback, Main profile
