Does a european tv with standard Pal B/G work in Thailand under standard Pal B/M ?

  2. Are you certain Thailand has PAL-M? Have a look at the PAL Wiki, most European PAL TV won't work with PAL-M. Also, Thailand is supposed to go digital this year.

    1) A modern PAL TV is, for the most part, is as "universal" as they come. They easily display NTSC material and have done so for quite a few years, maybe even decades by now.
    2) Seeing as so many TV carriers worldwide use some sort of cable box instead of directly from the wall to the TV, the tuner differences(if any) are also rendered pretty obsolete.
    3) From what I've read over the past 12-15 years, PAL is PAL no matter what letter is tacked onto the end of PAL. All of those extra letters refer to the "Broadcast Standard" and has little or nothing to do with what you end up watching/seeing.

PAL B/M appears a quite obscure broadcast standard. It appears unique for Thailand.

My guess it shares some of the features of PAL-M which is close to NTSC. That being so, a PAL B/G set would not work.

Of course one would expect a tv sold for Thailand to work in Thailand

But reading between the lines, I guess the OP is moving there and wants to take his existing set with him.

My point is, even in India and Australia.....PAL is PAL. The TVs have the same exact specs as far as what they accept for very similar TVs:

    India
    TV System 1 (Digital/Analog): B/G, D/K, I, L, M
Colour System PAL, SECAM, NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43
    Video Signal 480/60i, 480/60p, 576/50i, 720/50p,576/50p, 720/60p, 1080/50i, 1080/60i, 720/24p (HDMI™ only), 720/30p (HDMI™ only), 1080/24p (HDMI™ only), 1080/30p (HDMI™ only), 1080/60p (HDMI™ / Component), 1080/50p (HDMI™ / Component)

    Australia
    TV System 1 (Digital/Analog): B/G, D/K, I, L, M
Colour System PAL, SECAM, NTSC 3.58, NTSC 4.43
    Video Signal 480/60i, 480/60p, 576/50i, 720/50p,576/50p, 720/60p, 1080/50i, 1080/60i, 720/24p (HDMI™ only), 720/30p (HDMI™ only), 1080/24p (HDMI™ only), 1080/30p (HDMI™ only), 1080/60p (HDMI™ / Component), 1080/50p (HDMI™ / Component)

The only "system" I have not been able to view here with my normal European PAL equipment is French SECAM L, which I understand was very similar to the old East German standard.
    European TV are listed as:
    PAL
    SECAM
    NTSC
My TVs can all handle NTSC in a PAL VHS machine(quasi), and NTSC in an NTSC VHS machine. That alone covers the strange flavors of PAL.

Indeed. In most parts of the world PAL is PAL. But if you have a friend who lives in Brazil and sends you a tv recording of Carnival you could wonder why that PAL tape is B&W on your PAL tv. That is the point I am trying to make. That 'M' means something. And if it is close to PAL-M (Brazil) you could end up with a B&W picture.
