  1. Used Roxio Video Pack 5 to put several mpeg1 movies on to a DVD-R, used VP5 to demux the mpeg, convert the audio to 48Hz 16-bit stereo and then its muxer to mux to a vob.

No re-encoding was needed. Burned the VOBs to DVD and they play fine in the PC or stand alone player.

Now someone wants one of the movies, but they only have a CD drive.

Question is, the mpeg data in the VOBs is still mpeg1, how do I get it out of the VOB and back to an mpeg1 file?

I too am kinda interested in this one. I kinda have the similar issue. I have a bunch of vids I recorded to DVD (over 6 hours worth ) but i was unable to watch the WHOLE thing. But later I noticed one of the vids was corrupt so I want to take the other vids. and add in the newly encoded one, and reburn. Do i need to convert back to MPEG and then re-author the whole DVD ? Or can I just copy the DVD VOBs and IFO files and replace the bad VOB with the good VOB? And if I do have to bring it back down to MPEG1 - how???

All righty, never mind i figured it out.

Rename the VOB to mpeg, Dumultiplex with TMPGENC now you have a simple stream.

Of course I'm still interested if I even need to do this but hey It doesn't take long to de-mux.
