  1. Hello,

    I am trying to transcode some video to x264 and I am struggling with errors. I am pretty much just left things to default but getting header damaged on a lot of my older videos.

    They play ok in VLC so they do not seem beyond repair. but just cant seem to transcode them.

    I am using the command line;

    ffmpeg -i bean.mp4 -vcodec libx264 -map 0:0 -c:a:0 copy -map 0:1 -f mp4 bean_out.mp4

    I have included my log here;

    http://paste.ubuntu.com/9337277/

    I think it just needs the video resolution providing but not sure.

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Browny

    Try running the video through mkvmerge and then use handbrake to encode to mkv or mp4 x264.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. may be post a small sample of such a video.
    If ffmpeg is right and "looks like this file was encoded with (divx4/(old)xvid/opendivx) " and it really is an old non-mpeg-4 compliant file the whole thing might get tricky.

    As usual, having a "full" MediaInfo analysis report may be useful.
