  1. I am looking for conversion softwae to convert MPEG 4 to MPEG 1 so I can create a VCD. Is there any other method to create VCD from MPEG 4 files.

I have also problem in coverting MPEG 2 to MPEG 1 to create VCD by using TMPGEnc. It completes the conversion but I use NERO burning software it complains that it is not in standard form and re-encodes it before burning. When it re-encodes I get freezing screen, etc. Is there any fix to this problem or any other software do better job than TMPGEnc?

Thanks for the help through the forum.

  2. I followed the instructions given VCD help, but did not work. I extracted the audio as a wav file (Full extraction) by using virtual dub and then use TMPGENC for NTSC VCD format to convert MPGE4 and MPEG2 files, but when I use NERO to burn it withc VCD option I got a warning that encoded file is not VCD compatible and asked me whether to re-encode it in NERO. When NERO re-encodes it I get freezing frames, etc.

As far as I know TMPGEnc encodes to VCD compliant MPEG-1 if you load a VCD template after the source file. But if Nero asked for reencoding it isn't VCD compliant. Please post the file properties of the MPEG-1.

  4. I will check the properties. I was wondering which properties you want me to post. I don't know whether it makes any difference but I loaded NTSC VCD template before loading video and wav files.

Open the MPEG-1 in VirtualDub, select file > file information. There you will find the file properties.
Yes, it is a difference. First load the source files and after that the template.

  6. Hi again. The properties of converted file in Virtualdub as follows:
    Video Track
Frame size, fps 352x240, 23.976fps(4178um) (since the original was 23.976, I chose VCD-NTSC film in TMPGEnc during convertion)
    #of frame 87742
    #of I,P, and B frames 5079/24614/58049
    I-frame min/avg/max/total 1252/12700/36602/(62995K)
    P-frame min/avg/max/total 39/7138/18221 (171590K)
    B frame........ 30/4744/13623 (128953)
    Average bitrate 1128Kbps (138KB/s)

    Audio track
Format 44KHz stereo, 224 Kbps layer II
    #of frames 140094
    Total size 100068K

I burned the above file in NERO, when it asked me whether re-encode or burn directly due to the incompliance I chose burn without converting option. After it burned the VCD I watched on DVD without any problem. Only problem I noticed was the audio towards the end of the movie (last 10 minutes) ahead of the scenes (out of synch.)

    Any ideas..

    Thanks and appreciate the help.

I think Nero expect 29.97 fps. So it is a pulldown issue. http://www.doom9.org/mpg/pulldown.htm

  8. I read the pulldown issue in doom9. In which software or where I will do it. Is there any step by step procedure on that.

    Thanks...

pulldown.exe is a standalone command line based tool.

pulldown movie.mpv (where movie is put your file name)

Now hit enter and let it run. this program adds in something to tell your DVD player or mpeg player to play it with 3:2 dropdown encoding. It saves the file as pulldown.m2v so go ahead and change the name of it to prevent confusion an possibly being overwritten.

  10. Hi Again

The description you send me is for the files created by CCE. Can it be used also for the files converted with TMPGENC. The file extension created byu TMPGEnc is mpg.

    Thanks...

Download it and start with reading the README. It requires elementary video files, so you would have to demultiplex the MPEG, run it through pulldown.exe and remultiplex afterwards. I saw a 3:2 pulldown when playback option in TMPG, but this seem to work with MPEG-2 only.
Anyway I live in PAL country, that's why I am not very familar with that stuff. Try to search the forum or simply google.com.
