specs:
dell laptop core i3, 4g ram,
windows 7 home premium 64bit os
i am trying to install a usb driver (MTP Device--under manual install, i am selecting Portable Devices) to connect my android tablet so that i can use it in debug mode. after installing the device, i receive the following after installation:
The software for this device is now installed, but may not work correctly.
This device is not working correctly because windows cannot load the driver required for this device. (Code 31)
i read on the web that the next best recommendation to resolve this is to do the following:
1. go back into device mgr
2. locate and right-click the MTP Device and select "update driver software..."
3. select "Browser my computer for software driver"
4. and select "search for driver software in this location" -- so i browse to the folder and select the file "usb_driver"
5. hit Next and then it finished. but the message says
The best driver software for your device is already installed.
Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date.
i believe to have tried every suggestion on the web, all leading to the same basic steps but returning the same error message. now, i am stumped and can't go further in this endeavor. there must be some undocumented way to un-install and re-install a driver though external from the windows 7 install process.
has anyone been through this same wringer process and knows the answer to this problem ?
thank you.

Enable MTP(Media Transfer Protocol) in tablet
go to notification -> USB connection and select MTP, reconnect tablet to computer again

That's typical for Android devices, I found a tutorial on XDAforum on modding the inf file for my tablet, I just can't find it now. Basically, all you have to do is add your tablet's VID and PID. Get USBdeview, connect your tablet to the PC and look for it in the USBdeview list (connected devices have a green dot). Double click its entry and look for the Instance ID box, copy the VID and PID data between the backslashes. Open the MTP Device driver inf file in notepad, pick a line with a VID and PID entry and replace the data. If you picked a line that includes a subsys value, just delete the subsys data (unless there was a subsys entry for your tablet, then replace it), save the file, disconnect your tablet and in USBdeview, delete the tablet entry. When you plug in the tablet the driver should recognize your tablet.
Apparently there are 2 different drivers, it's possible you might have to try the other one.
BTW, USBdeview is handy for fixing USB problems, just delete the device from the list. -
i don't know how you guys are able to post images so quickly being that i can't and have to post them in the test area and post them to their and then display them and then copy the link and then paste it into my document. too much work. but the images would help explain what i see for you to see. anyway. so let me write down my tables settings and get back to you..

Did you know where is notification in tablet?
-
when i connect the table via the usb into the the laptop, the usual pop-up box does not show up. in fact, nothing happen. no sound, nothing.
but, on my puny little netbook w/ xp home, when i connect the table to it, it displays the pop-up (files, camera, player, etc) and in the device mgr, it is listed as an MTP Device V400. -
regarding the notification, mine must be different from yours posted because my notification display completely different things, and nothing to do with usb anything.
-
1) Go to notification in tablet, when its usb connected
you need swipe from top to bottom, like in video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=u59e7MkTpv8#t=305
2) select usb connection
3) enable MTP
4) disconnect usb connection and connect again -

unfortunately, i can't prove to you by image demonstration what my tablet screen is showing since i can't post images effectively like you can. but i assure you, i have absolutely NO usb option or setting or even it being written anywhere in this android tablet. i have searched everywhere on this tablet. so unless it is hidden by special key taps, it is not documented, and there is no usb to configure on this device.
by the way, the table in that youtube link is the exact one i am using, except mine is black.Last edited by vhelp; 11th Nov 2014 at 17:00.

ok, i found it. it is not in the stated drag/up/down to get to notification. but it can be found in the Settings\Storage\Menu\USB PC connection [Media device (MTP)(o)]. but it was already switched to that setting.
i am also testing the usb connection on the windows xp netbook, in addition to originally testing on the dell laptop win 7. but for some reason, both machines are not giving me the familiar pop-up when i connect the usb cable to it. but when i pop in a mem stick, then they both do.
edit:
i believe that the pop-up dialog box is necessary for this connection to complete its process because the next step to communicate from pc-to-tablet is to select the "Open folder to view files" when prompt, but as stated, the pop-up is not happening when i connect the usb cable into the netbook or the laptop. -

i believe part of the problem is that both these machines do not pop-up the usual message when you insert a usb device. i am searching around to see if there is a way to restore that but having problems with the search term in google. no hits yet. i'll report back if/when i find that info out. -
Did you try restart tablet?
-
I'm confused, does it work on XP or not? Or, did it work once and now it doesn't? It could be that you have a marginal USB connection (the cable or the port).
I've had Android devices that were finicky and needed multiple attempts installing the driver, but if it works some of the time that would seem more like a bad USB connection. Is this a standard micro USB port, try a different known good cable, preferably shorter.
It's not a requirement, it's an indication that the device was not properly detected by Windows. If you look at device manager with the tablet connected and you see a red or yellow mark entry, that indicates an incorrect or no driver installed condition. This is when you would go to the device's driver tab and click update. If that still doesn't work, delete the device and click refresh in the action menu, repeat as needed.
I think the better way to re-install the driver is to get USBdeview and use it to remove all traces of the tablet from the PC (look through the list of USB device, click on the one that match the tablet and hit delete).
Get the latest driver from LG, run the installation with your tablet unplugged, only plug it in when you are told to.
If it doesn't work, start over. Eventually everything will fall in place, unless the USB port is bad. -
I had this thing in the back of my mind that Win 7 shipped with MTP drivers, I should have checked that first since one of the advice from the MS support site is to remove all outside drivers (BTW, this guy has the same problem you do). You would expect the manufacturer to supply proper drivers, but looking at LG's site I'd say anything is possible. There's hardly any information, not even a date or minimum system requirement.
To remove the LG driver you will have to go to Programs and Functionality in control panel. -

appoigies for not getting back to this topic. i had solved the problem out. it was the type of usb cable. apparently, i was using a generic cable from some other device (which works perfectly fine but just not with the android-to-pc for transfering, etc) and both cables were/are in good shape. i do not know what makes the difference between the two though.
