I don't know if such a thing exists but is there a video media player wherein the play, pause and stop functions can be controlled by usb from another computer? If not usb then maybe some other kind of computer port? I only need to play basic avi SD videos from a composite port, nothing fancy. This is for a TV project that is controlled by computer and the only media players I can find are controlled by a remote. Thanks for any advice.

You could try something like UltraVnc. It can remotely control the entire computer and launch and operate a video player. http://www.uvnc.com/
