x264 only re-encodes, ffmpeg re-encodes or can re-wrap video into other container, religiously I'd mux mkv only with mkvmerge or you can just batch re-encode audio only, whatever works ...

- solved - get a better usb wifi modem adapter.

my old belkin usb wifi adaptor, model F7D4101 was just not cut out for video streaming, from any device, no matter how fast the device was. so the belkin was just too slow. and last year i had purchased a newer netgear A6100 wifi adaptor (but was too lazy to connect it and then lost the disc and didn't care anymore) and then this evening, having enough of the video playback issues and wanting to get the android to play video smoothly from any of my media devices (pc, usb hdd's, wifi router, and now a new WDMyCloud) it was just a matter of adding finally adding this newer netgear A6100 wifi adapter. i had found the needed driver at www.netgear.com and finding the device support page.

now, there is no more video stutter or buffering going on. and not only can i view my videos on my shared folder from my xp home computer, but also from my netgear N900 router and newly purchased wdmycloud wifi storage device.

and, i can watch video on my laptop or android from those devices. the only drawback to this success, is the through-put of copying files from my xp home desktop pc or laptop over to the wdmycloud or netgear N900 router is rediculously slow. but that is another topic to open and discuss fixing.
