  1. Hello, I've tried to follow all your instructions so I hope this will not be an unwanted post. I'm basically looking for something that converts WMV to MPEG or any file type that Quicktime supports. I'd like to view some.wmv files in quicktime so I can see them frame by frame (which WMP doesn't seem to do) so I just need to convert them to anything that quicktime will play.

    Thanks.

TMPGenc (Freeware versions available) will do this no problem. See links (left) for download sites

  3. Thank you!

Any idea how long it takes the software to do the conversion (in general)?

It totally depends on the file size of the WMV and the settings you use in TMPGenc (e.g. CBR, VBR, CQ) and if you need to apply any filters. There's lots of info on this site about TMPGenc setttings from people who know far more than me.

  5. In addition to encoding settings, it also depends a lot on CPU muscle. More CPU=faster.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."
