Hi i just got direct tv today in high def. Last week I bought myself a hd pvr 2 1512 to capture off the box with a splitter. Im having issues setting it up so i can watch tv and and record on my computer screen. Whenever i try to connect the genie dvr to my capture dervice i got no singel and my comouter won't find the dervice cause its not setup right.
This is how im trying and trying to do it. Hd pvr hdmi out to hdmi in the splitter. The genie hdmi to plug one on the splitter hdmi plugs then hdmi plug 2 on pvr 2 back to genie hdmi plug but its not working. No singel.
I'm using windows 7. Any information would be great. I'm using viewhd hdmi splitter.

Ok i finally got it working but im having another issue its when I record on hdmi cable its recording at 720x480 than 1280x720. My tv is only 720p I tried wintv 7 and capture4me all are recording dvd size not hd ready size. Could it be the splitter.

I found this diagram of how to hook it up; nowhere I see any mention of a splitter. From what I can tell analog video source (component) goes into the A/V in port, the HDMI in can only be connected to a source that is not protected (no HDCP) and the HDMI out goes to the TV.

No, it isn't the splitter. You need to go into the Genie's settings and change the HDMI output resolution so that it matches the resolution you want, 720p.
I found the following advice in a DirecTV forum:
Assuming your Minis are connected via HDMI cable try this: Menu -> Settings and Help -> Settings -> Display -> resolutions: Take the check mark off all resolutions except 1080i. If the TV sets happen to be 720p models, then check 720p only. -
Some (not all) HDMI splitters remove HDCP as a side effect, but there is another reason to use an HDMI splitter with an HD-PVR 2. if someone is using the HD-PVR 2 for recording TV and wants to leave it set up permanently and the HD-PVR 2's passthrough is connected to a TV instead of the splitter, the HD-PVR 2 must be left on, even if nothing is to be recorded.
The connections when using a splitter are as follows:
1. Connect the STB's (set top box.s) HDMI out to the splitter's HDMI in.
2. Connect the HDMI splitter's first HDMI out to the TV's HDMI in.
3.Connect the HDMI splitter's second HDMI out to the HD-PVR 2's HDMI in.
4. Connect a USB 2.0 cable between the HD-PVR 2's and the PC
5. Connect the PC video card's HDMI, DVI, or VGA to the monitor as usual. -

Nevermind i figure out the issue some reason my tv is still in sd mode with hdmi pluged in. I hope its not my splitter changing the size but i doubt it.

The splitter itself can't change the size. It might cause the source and sink to negotiate a different size, depending on which sink is detected first.

I noticed that when directv setup the box they never changed my tv res but i fixed it to correct size. Thanks all your help.
