  1. I am trying to encode the movie for my tablet from blu ray source.
At first I was using MakeMKV but that did not work so I tried DVDFab to rip it into a MKV, I want to encode it to mp4@7000KBps for my tablet.
I then used TSmuxer and found out that there were actually two video streams, one @ 1920x1080p which is the one I want and another one @720x480 which I don't want. My tablet can play full HiDef so the first stream I want to keep and encode.
The problem is no matter what I try the output video refuses to play in VLC.
I have tried remuxing the video into just the 1920 and then encoding but so far the exact same thing happens. The original plays fine on my computer. It is Cinavia protected if that makes a difference.
I want to be able to encode it @ h.264 Level 5.2 as files encoded with this version of the codec look really good even though they are onle 7000 Kbps.
Should I be using something other that Handbrake(it is what I am used to)?
    And if so what?
What am I doing wrong that I can't play the video(even on my computer?
    Thanks

MakeMKV should be able to decrypt and rip the movie. Try using the Backup mode to get the entire thing onto the hard drive. If this fails, use DVDFab to rip (ONLY RIP...NOT Re-encode).
Then use ClownBD to get the main movie into a separate Blu-ray structure. This new Blu-ray should work fine as input into Handbrake or VidCoder.

Level 5.2 is not necessary for a conversion for a tablet. You should use 4.0 or 4.1 at most.

  3. I tried MakeMKV to both rip and extract. It made a funky dual video file that Handbrake encoded but will not play with VLC.
I don't see how Clown will be any different but will give it a try.

Demux the original and then remux using tsMuxer w/o the secondary video stream. You can use the original m2ts from your MakeMKV
backup or from a direct rip to mkv container. Handbrake or VidCoder should be able to handle it then.

I did just that, I tried striping out the 720x480 stream and encoding in handbrake. I've tried encoding the m2ts. Nothing works. the original m2ts plays fine in VLC. I have tried encoding from mkv, I have not tried VidCoder so I will try that now. Wish me luck and thank you all for trying to help me.

  6. Vidcoder didn't work either.
I have tried m2ts files both from MakeMKV backup and DVDFab copy.

If you rip the Blu-ray in its entirety, either using MakeMKV in Backup mode or with DVDFab, you should have a complete copy on the hard drive minus encryption. ClownBD should be able to pick out the correct main movie and give you a second copy in Blu-ray format, or as an m2ts file, this time without any extraneous audio or video streams since you can delete them in ClownBD if they show up in the lists. I don't remember ClownBD ever messing this up.

And this particular movie brings up no results when searching for problems at the Slysoft forums, so I have to think it does not have a particularly nasty protection scheme, like multiple mpls files that are almost, but not quite correct.

The second copy from ClownBD should play correctly, and should work in Handbrake or VidCoder. There isn't much difference between those two programs by the way. VidCoder is basically just a different GUI for Handbrake, with a few more options.

  9. VidCoder encodes then when it gets close to the end of the second pass it says: ! Failed

  10. Am trying VidCoder again this time from the bluray directory(not the mkv as I was doing).

  11. same thing it almost encoded then failed.

  12. Clown makes it look as if it is doing something but the output file still can not be played.

Don't know exactly, but 23.976fps 720x480 progressive video is not valid for VC-1 encoded BluRay, according to specs I've seen. Some encoders won't go for it. High bitrate MPEG for BluRay will if it's 23.97 + 3:2 pulldown to get it up to 29.976. That's the way it works with two of my encoders.

  16. I stripped the 720x480 from the file and tried it, it plays just fine in VLC but when I encode it the resulting file does not work.
I have the disc backed up both with MakeMKV and DVDFab and neither of them work.
