  1. Hi All,

This is my first post on this website so I hope this question has not been answered yet. I did take a look but didnt find anything that answered my question.

My PS3 did not play a 45MB .MP4 file properly (it seemed to be going in 1.5x speed and the sound was like it was fast forwarding). This video plays fine on my PC.
So I took to WinAvi all in 1 converter and selected PS3 to convert the file into something more suitable. After the conversion the file surely played on the PS3 just fine however the filesize grew to 258MB!! I went back to the application to select a smaller file size option but the best I could get it down to was 175MB. I am new to the file conversion world and could do with some assistance on this. I need to understand if the file size is down to how good my processor/hardware is, or is it the application which I am using?

My aim is to convert my 45MB file to PS3 friendly and not compromise on the filesize, a few MB here or there is fine but shouldnt grow too big. Am I being unrealistic here?

    PC: Win8.1 x86, AMD Athlon II X3 435 (2.90GHz), 4GB RAM

  3. Thanks SFS, will give this a go. But do you think my PC is too old to handle file conversions? Is that why files are expanding from your opinion?

  4. no not at all an older pc will just be slower to do the encode

go with the high profile encoding or xbox 360 preset

  5. hmmm, OK so I just tried it but filesize was still over 100MB. I got the file uploaded here (WeTransfer) if you want to take a look: https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/be0044a004a3f3d7ee93548480763f8d20141020195603/93...0195603/40ec15

I have tried so many file conversion tools, so many files everywhere. Nearly at my wits end!!
Its the end of the day here for me (UK), maybe tomorrow I can crack it.

  6. in vidcoder go to encoding settings and under quality select target size and eneter your desired filesize

the ps3 should play from usb sizes up tp 4 gig sounds like therer could be another issue

If you're going to be using an external HDD as the transfer medium between the PC and your PS3, you will have a file size limit of 4GB due to the FAT 32 file size limit.

A little off topic, but what does VidCoder do that Handbrake doesn't? What does Handbrake do that VidCoder doesn't? Are they, for all intents and purposes, roughly the same program?

    Serious question.

    Thanks.
