  1. I have three appr. 400mb PES files from a surveilance camera that the owner extracted to a usb stick.
I was asked if I could help making these videofiles viewable.
What I have discovered so far is that PES is a Packetized elemantary stream, some sort of mpeg2 container.
Noob on this type of files I wonder how can i make these files viewable.

If it is truly in an MPEG container, you could likely just rename from PES to MPG (program stream).

If it is truly a PES, it would only be an audio or video stream, not both. And you could likely rename them to M2A/MP2 or M1V/M2V, respectively. Though raw/elementary streams really don't exist as Packetized outside of a container.

  3. Thank you for the answer Scott.
I´ve tried with renaming the files and open them with WMP and VLC. No luck.
Filenames are yyyymmdd081300, 83916, 090001. When my friend "copied/exported" a recording last time it came out as an AVI file.
I think I need to understand how this box records and saves data from the 6 available cameras.

Start by running directly-just-recorded samples through MediaInfo and upload the detailed text readout here.

Grrreat, MPG files containing multiple MPEG-4 video streams

Yes, MPEG-4 ASP in MPG is spec-compliant, however most software (demuxers, players) was not designed to support it

You should give a try to MPlayer though.

I would first remux: demux with Imago, TMPGEnc, ProjectX, etc., then mux each individual raw stream - on their own - into MP4 using YAMB or myMP4BoxGUI.

  10. Thanks to both of you it works, got the burglar on camera. Fingerprints and video are pretty solid evidence.
    Many thanks. /Pimmp
