  1. In virtualdub audio codecs list, I see the MPEG Layer-3 2 times. One is populated with the usual format anyone can expect, but the other one is empty. Anyone has an answer for this ?

    The 'empty' one is the one included by default with Windows, as far as I recall, and is basically intended more for playback than encoding - which is why you don't get that many options for use with encoding.
    If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
