Hello all,
My 1212 after years of reliable service has given up the ghost (probably from a recent thunderstorm). It appears to boot up, but the USB is dead (USB device not found). Unfortunately, Hauppauge was no help in resolving the issue (somewhat of a runaround between Tech Support and Sales). Pulled the board out, touched up any cold looking solder joints, but still no joy.
Anyway, I used the 1212 primarily for recording HD shows, etc. off cable (via component/optical). I have it set to PS3/m2ts at 5 Mbps. It's running on a 3 GHz Celeron (single core) CPU with 1 GB RAM, and couldn't be happier. I would like to run a bit higher on the bitrate, but the CPU is the limiting factor.
My question is, do I spend the ~$200 for another 1212 (which I know works) or go with the less expensive (~$150) 1512 HD-PVR 2?
Given the CPU/bitrate limitations I have, has anyone experienced any issues for the 1512?
Also, if anyone has suggestions for alternatives for the 1212/1512, again, taking into account the PC limitations I have, it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

If you happen to be using Linux (as I suspect you may be on account of the low-spec hardware in your HTPC) there are no Linux drivers for the HD-PVR 2.

I've had the 1512 for a few weeks now and have used it to capture video from my satellite box as well as my PS4. I've had no issues with it. It's been working great.
