If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

…should be related to audio codecs (the one into your mp4 is not handeled by your player, eg: ac3 audio in mp4)
Your previous system had some plug-ins to enable readout of your audio contents
but your newest have not, so:
- install some plug-ins like Perian, and continue to use QuickTime Player 7 as reader (Notice: do not use QuickTimeX, it does not use your plug-ins)
- or use another reader like VLC

Then, something else is wrong, and this is where the information dump on one or more of the videos might have helped. Do they use AC3 audio, for example?

...okay, then, do you have any problems playing multichannel/surround MKV files?
I find it odd that your system would only not play audio for MP4 files, even on players that don't use the system architectures. If you take the exact same files from the Mavericks system to another system, do they play properly? (I'm wondering if the copies on the Mavericks system might be corrupt in some way. Doubtful, but I suppose anything's possible.)If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
