  1. When I burn a 2 hour file to a DVD, it takes about 1 hour to author and burn the DVD using Ulead Moviefactory. However, I tried to burn a 1 minute file, and it took almost as long. I could also see on the DVD disk that over half the disk was burned just for this 1 minute file.
Have I missed something here, or is there a bug with Ulead and the Pioneer 104?

Also, with the new Nero update, can you simply drag a mpeg file over to the Video_TS folder, or do you still have to "author" the mpeg file? Will anybody come up with a free utility, or cheap and fast utility that will "check" the mpeg file and make it ready for DVD burning? I don't understand why this authoring process is so complicated when you don't need any menus and intros, but simply want to burn a single mpeg file! I sure hope Nero will add this "file checking or author" process so you can simply drag the mpeg file over to the video folder. Even with a 1.5 GHz P4, Ulead spends 30 minutes chewing on a single 4 gig mpeg file before it can burn it. Why?

The menu's and stuff was written into the DVD standard so you have to do it

  3. I still don't understand WHY?

If someone has a DVD real-time recorder, please let us know the file structure, and what files are there.

Obviously, you can't wait for half an hour after you hit the record button until it actually is ready to record, NOR do I assume that when you hit Stop, do you have to wait for half an hour for it to finish the record.
There has to be an easier way to put mpeg files on a DVD, that is basically real time, and that does NOT require "authoring".

So please, post the file structure on a real-time LIVE DVD recorded disk. It should give some clues to shortcuts that can be made to burn video on a DVD without any menu creation. I see no reason why a DVD compliant mpeg file cannot be burned directly to a DVD without any special processing.

  4. Here are a few links I found that might help. It looks like UDF 2.0 supports incremental live recording of video...

  5. I also found a document explaining real-time recording on DVD+R, so hopefully Nero can check it out and add this feature in to a template for recording mpeg files to DVD disks WITHOUT authoring.
